Whats your coco mix?

I'm usually 70-30 with perlite with 2ltr of clay pebbles @ bottom and a layer across top but looking back my best result was my layer of pebbles @ bottom and just coco and my layer of pebbles at the top. I'm in 25ltr pots. What's yours?

Mother Earth 70/30 Coco/Perlite start to finish I never add anything else other than water and nutrients. Honestly I've grown in both coco and coco/perlite and can say the perlite is a crutch but it does help in my experience with determining if I've watered enough when hand watering.

Some say whatever % Perlite you add is the percentage of your pots capacity you're removing since roots can't grow through perlite rocks, so a 10 gal is really a 7 gal if you were to be running 70/30 coco/perlite vs 100% coco. I think this theory actually holds true because I'm able to water my 10 gallon coco pots every day with 2 gallons of feed at their size.

Anyways, really all you need is pure coco but the perlite will help with drainage and I personally think the roots like it better. It's kinda a buffer ya know?

p.s if you're hand watering, you shouldn't need to add anything to the bottom of your pots. I'm imagining the bottom drying out faster than the top isn't good.

Layer of pebbles on the bottom doesn't increase drainage, just decreases root space as there is less coco to root into.

That and it could cause the tap roots to get mighty stressed and air prune as the clay balls will definitely dry out faster than the coco above it.

70/30 as it seems more common than pure coco here. I have used that mother earth brand before with good results, there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between them. Not too interested in the blocks, I'm an ease of use fan and bags seem easier.

It deppends on the brand of coco and the age of the plant.
All coco isn't equal some coco retains more air/moisture than others so imo better suited for different jobs.

With canna I like perlite for seedlings and clones with the brick coco I get I don't need perlite for the earlier stages but it does requires frequent feeding in flower.

Imo all coco is great but to get the best from it I need to make minor changes.
