Russia has an automated nuclear missile defense system.
If it detects an incoming nuclear threat, it will automatically retaliate against the aggressor, by launching nukes at them.
So there is no catching them off guard, or sneaking one by when they're not looking, in this scenario.
Also, Russia has the Satan II nuclear missile (aka RS-28 Sarmat), in their arsenal.
Which can allegedly level a target as large as the entire state of Texas with just one missile.
You cannot pack a gigaton of yield into such a missile.

Someone said you could just stuff one in a bin disguised as a bomb and the Russians would never know. I think Texas is safe but I fear for Oklahoma.

Bomb Mississippi and improve the view.

Bomb Florida and raise the nation's collective IQ.

I can see how we'd be better off. I'm learning to love the bomb.

Our souls will just go somewhere else:

You are welcome. I do believe there are other planets where our souls can be attached to biological organisms for life experiences. Consciousness transcends space and time so getting there is not an issue for souls not currently on earth. No worries if you do not share this belief. I understand.

Satan II can reportedly carry up to 10-12 large nuclear warheads, or 16 smaller ones, as payload.
I believe the warheads separate from the missile before impact in order to widen the area of destruction.
NATO estimates that this nuclear missile can take out targets as large as Texas, or France, in one strike.

No. Look at the 1-Mt contours in the pic. A megaton will cover about 300 square miles in area. Twelve of those on a Sarmat, laid perfectly, will do a third of greater Houston in prompt effects. I am not counting delayed effects from daughter nuclides. Those do have a multiplying effect on nuclear area denial.
(edit) uh picture.

Speaking of France and nukes, here’s a decent 2019 movie to get into nuclear war mood.

It’s basically a submarine movie about a stoner with excellent hearing who gets caught with THC in his blood yet ends up saving the world from nuclear annihilation.
That was a good one i liked it

Also, to add something to the conversation, fuck putina
