Judge Orders Stewart Rhodes, Leader of Oath Keepers, Jailed Pending his Seditious Conspiracy Trial

A federal judge ordered the leader of the Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, jailed pending trial own charges of seditious conspiracy, among others. Here is a review of some of what we learned from the court hearing about Rhodes' conduct in connection with the insurrection, as well as the evidence that persuaded the judge that Rhodes is both a danger to the community and a flight risk.

Jan. 6 defendant asks to subpoena Trump as trial witness
Samuel Shamansky on Friday submitted court filings on behalf of his client and Jan. 6, 2021 defendant Dustin Thompson asking for a judge to allow them to subpoena Trump and others to testify as witnesses in Thompson’s trial.
“Defendant submits that the individuals he seeks to subpoena are in exclusive possession of information relevant to this case. Moreover, their testimony is necessary to ensure that Defendant’s constitutional right to present a complete defense is safeguarded,” according to the court filings.

"It is anticipated that, when called as a witness, Donald J. Trump will testify that he and others orchestrated a carefully crafted plot to call into question the integrity of the 2020 presidential election and the validity of President Biden’s victory," the filings add. "Moreover, it will be established at trial that Mr. Trump and his conspirators engaged in a concerted effort to deceive the public, including Defendant, into believing that American democracy was at stake if Congress was permitted to certify the election results."

The court filings indicate that if Trump and others were compelled to testify in Thompson’s trial, their testimony would show that they had wanted to prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election results.

“Defendant submits that the testimony of Mr. Trump and his conspirators will establish that they were determined, by any means necessary, to prevent Congress from fulfilling its constitutional mandate to certify the election results,” the court filings said. “In order to accomplish that goal, the conspirators Defendant now seeks to subpoena engaged in a concerted effort to organize, encourage, and direct rally participants to storm the Capitol, enter the grounds, ‘fight like hell,’ and ‘engage in trial by combat.”

Shamansky said some of the other witnesses they would like to subpoena include former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon, conservative lawyer John Eastman, pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell and Donald Trump Jr.
Thompson’s attorney says he expects an opinion to be made soon, but he acknowledged that they may face legal challenges ahead even if the request is approved.

“If and when Judge Walton approves our issues for a subpoena, we fully expect Trump and his co-conspirators to utilize every legal trick in the book to avoid being placed under oath,” Shamansky said.
Thompson faces a string of charges associated with the Jan. 6, 2021 attack when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and tried to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election.

Formerly a Democrat, Walton changed his party affiliation to Republican because he believes blacks should have a voice in both parties.

Leaders of Oath Keepers and Proud Boys met in a parking lot on Jan 5, 2021. “By coincidence,” Tarrio said, “he was inside … that parking garage.” He said he shook hands with Rhodes solely to be polite.

Exclusive: FBI probes pre-Capitol riot meeting of far-right groups

Reached again in January, Tarrio said he would not answer further questions. “I usually speak to all reporters,” he texted back after one question, “but when they become conspiracy theorists … that’s usually when I sever ties.” :dunce:

Not false conspiracy theory, but a "conspiracy theory". slip of the tongue, perhaps?

WASHINGTON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing a meeting in a downtown DC garage the day before the January 6 Capitol Hill riot between the then-leader of the Proud Boys extremist group, the now-indicted leader of the Oath Keepers militia and other far-right figures, according to two witnesses interviewed by FBI agents.

Among the half dozen people gathered at a garage near the Phoenix Park Hotel was Oath Keepers head Stewart Rhodes, who was indicted this year on charges of “seditious conspiracy” in the insurrection. Proud Boys Chairman Enrique Tarrio, who was not present at the riot, was also at the garage meeting but left Washington afterward.

The meeting put the heads of the nation’s two best-known violent far-right pro-Trump groups in immediate proximity to each other 24 hours before the breach of the Capitol. Three attendees or their representatives contacted by Reuters say they did not discuss matters related to January 6.

Bianca Gracia, who heads a pro-Trump coalition called Latinos for Trump and an affiliated Political Action Committee named Latinos For America First, was at the garage meeting as well, according to witnesses and video taken by a documentary film crew. Also present was Kellye SoRelle, a lawyer for the Oath Keepers and Latinos for Trump. SoRelle told Reuters she was invited by Gracia to meet Tarrio and share information about criminal defense attorneys. She said her role in the meeting was brief, and did not concern plans for the next day.

After reading the above story about the quack doctor, this stood out to me:

Abruptly ending a presidential protest hours early (if about a dozen other speakers left to talk after Trump was done) is one way to cause a wandering flash mob to cover the tracks of the domestic terrorists attacking the capital (since Trump did direct them to it, and that he would be there with them) is what that sounds like to me.
I really hope she 1. loses her license and 2. gives some information about why the speech she said she was supposed to give at 1pm on J6 was canceled so that the mob listening to Trump would turn to the capital which was being pushed open by the insurrectionists for the full scale riot.

WASHINGTON — A right-wing doctor known for spreading debunked claims about the COVID-19 pandemic has reached an agreement to plead guilty to charges connected to the Capitol riot, the Justice Department told a federal judge Tuesday.

Dr. Simone Gold, who founded America’s Frontline Doctors, gained a following in the summer 2020 through her opposition to COVID-19 lockdowns and her promotion of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the virus. At the time, it was clear hydroxychloroquine was unlikely to be an effective treatment for the virus, and subsequent studies have show it may actually exacerbate the risk of infected patients.

Gold was eventually blocked from Facebook for spreading misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines and continuing to promote hydroxychloroquine as a treatment.

On Jan. 5, one day before the Capitol riot, Gold spoke at an anti-vax rally in Washington, D.C. The following day, according to the Justice Department, Gold and an associate, John Herbert Strand, joined rioters in entering the U.S. Capitol Building.

In charging documents, prosecutors say Gold, accompanied by Strand, can be seen in photos from the riot using a bullhorn to give a speech to other members of the mob in Statuary Hall. Other videos from the day, they say, show Strand and Gold in part of a large crowd attempting to push past multiple officers blocking the entrance to the Capitol.

Gold and Strand were indicted in February on five counts each, including a felony count of obstruction of an official proceeding.

During a status hearing Tuesday, attorneys said Gold had reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. It was not immediately clear which charges she had agreed to plead guilty to. Strand, who was allegedly in D.C. on Jan. 6 to act as Gold’s bodyguard, has until March 10 to accept or reject a plea offer from the government.

Gold and Strand aren't the only links between the anti-vax movement and the Capitol riot. In August, a federal judge sentenced a Virginia couple, Joshua and Jessica Bustle, to home detention for entering the U.S. Capitol Building. Photographs from Jan. 6 show Jessica holding a sign reading "VACCINE INJURY is the REAL PANDEMIC" as she entered the building.

Attorneys representing Oath Keeper defendants in their Capitol riot cases have also filed lengthy motions with the court comparing the COVID-19 vaccine to the Holocaust and rehashing debunked claims about hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. A federal judge promptly rejected those motions, and warned them not to use the court as a forum for "bombastic arguments."

That last paragraph, comparing Covid vaccines to the holocaust....in court lol! It's funny enough when tweekers do it here in the forum, but professional lawyers doing it in court is awesome. I guess it's similar to asking the judge, "do you do meth too..?". Apparently they do not.

Capitol Riot Suspect Evan Neumann Wins Asylum in Belarus
A California man wanted by the FBI for his role in the deadly Jan. 6, 2020, Capitol riot has just been granted asylum in Belarus, according to Belarusian state media.

“U.S. citizen Evan Neumann has received refugee status in Belarus. The document was handed to him today in the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee,” read a statement shared by the BelTA news agency.

“I feel safe in Belarus. It’s calm, I like it in this country. Today I am experiencing mixed feelings. I’m glad that Belarus has taken care of me. I’m upset that I wound up in this situation, that in my native country there were such problems,” Neumann was quoted saying.

Neumann, 48, was charged on six different counts last July, including violent entry and assaulting police officers. But he was already in the wind, having reportedly sold his house and absconded first to Ukraine, and then Belarus last August.

In November, he turned up on Belarusian state TV begging for political asylum and telling a wild story about how he had navigated “swamps” and “quicksand”—as well as snakes and wild boar—to make it into the promised land that (according to him) is Belarus.

In a segment that began by claiming that Neumann had just tried to “make America great again,” the fugitive rioter said he had gone to the Capitol that day for the sake of his children.

“I do not believe that I have committed any crime. One of the accusations was very upsetting. It is alleged that I hit a police officer. That is baseless,” he said.

He went on to say he was asking for “government protection” in Belarus because of the “political persecution” he was experiencing in the U.S., which involved the FBI releasing a photo of him and questioning his family on his whereabouts.

One can tell much about a person from the company they keep.

Lukashenko faced strong opposition in the 2020 election, and fearing that he might be toppled, he falsified election results, declaring that he won 80% of the vote and giving himself a sixth term.

Some people can't live in a democracy.

What are those brown items inside those bags and why? Kibble or Corn Nuts I can't decide.
Landscaping pebbles, in the bag to give it weight, so they can throw them into yards and onto porches while they drive by.
