8yrs MIA - Blue Cheese SF-4000 4x4 grow

Welp, it's been about 8~ years since I've grown anything. And the last time I was growing it was a) my first time growing weed and b) I was growing out of a damn cardboard box in my closet. The three things that haven't changed though are that I am still using LED's, still using closets, and still using organic soil/nutrients for my medium of choice! Let's just say the technology and info has grown a bit since 2014. Back then I was using a 65w Hans panel and growing in promix HP with General Organics nutrients and using a box about 3'x2' in size....now that I am an adult and stuff I get to do adult things. Like buy and use full size grow tents. Here's a bit of info on my setup:

Larutan 4x4x6.5~ tent
Spiderfarmer SF4000 LED
Spiderfarmer 6" inline fan/carbon filter combo

3.5" pots for seedlings, 1.5L pots for early veg, and then moving to 5gallon pots for final stages. Unfortunately the seeds that I am using are about as old and rusty as my growing skills - Barney's Farm Blue Cheese will be what I take in to flower. I had a few Pineapple Chunk seeds, a few Strawberry Blue, and one Hawaiian Skunk Haze left over from 2014 but really the only ones that germinated and actually grew were the Blue Cheese seeds. I should just be happy that I managed to get any of these seeds to germinate, so that is what I will be growing until I order in some new genetics in the next month or two.

Some pics of the early setup:

SF-4000 - notice the LED placement on the newer panels for better spread

Using the spare closet to start seedlings/clones or maybe just to veg if necessary. Just bought a couple low watt full spectrum T5 style grow LED's to get things started.

We have life. First couple seeds sprouted about 36 hours after germinating. Not bad for being dormant for 8 years baking away in a metal container stuck on a window sill.

Seeing some weird growth in a few of the seeds - splindly twisty leaves or just odd patterns early on. I'm attributing this to the old seeds/poor storage for now but perhaps my temps and humidity was off just enough to make them uncomfortable. They seem to get better as they grow which is good. One of the Blue Cheese phenos is on steroids apparently so it's been transplanted and I may end up taking a clone or two from this one as I see how it continues to grow.

Things should start picking up over the next few weeks! Forgot to mention that I am using Gaia Green for my soil & nutrients.

Gaia Green - Living Soil/Worm Castings/All Purpose/Power Bloom. Feels good to be back :blsmoke:

I guess it's a weed plant? I'm going to blame this on going from 35w of light to about 300w of light after they left the seed dome

I wish all my plants had the same pheno as the bottom one!

Nothing crazy exciting going on, just growing and transplanting...growing and transplanting. They seem to be enjoying the Gaia Green medium/nutes. The steroid pheno has been moved to its final 5gallon pot.

Decided to pick up some seeds and get the next in line started up. Critical Magic and Island Sweet Skunk from Next Generation seeds. Looking forward to using seeds that aren't a decade old!

IMG-1657.JPG

Sprinkled a tiny bit of Dynomyco before plopping in the seed.

Gives me a good opportunity to test out this cheap ass COB LED panel that I bought though.

Well the weirdo wasn't really growing much so I decided to pluck it tonight. Barely growing a root system at all :(

The 4 finalists have been chosen, #bluecheese run it is

Update on the Island Sweet Skunk and Critical Magic. Sure is nice when your seeds aren't old as balls! 7/8 have sprouted and started on their journey. No water glass, no paper towel. Straight into most soil and right under the dome for 24-36 hours. They will be vegging away in the closet until I decide to bring them over to the main tent.

Make that 8/8 sprouted.

IMG-1726.JPG

Everything in the main tent has been transplanted to a 5gallon pot. Will veg for another 33-34 days and then it's flower time

Lights on 18/6 @ 80%~ 30" height from plants
Temps 18-30c
Humidity 50~ average

2 weeks old.

5 weeks of veg. 3 more to go then we flower. I was underwatering some of the plants in the 5gallon pots. Lesson learned.

I'm a fucking idiot. Decided it would be wise to switch to RO water for no apparent reason other than thinking it could be nothing but beneficial for the plants. Wrong. Started causing a bunch of issues in a few of the plants. Have switched back to my delicious chlorinated tap water and they seem to be back to being happy. 2~ more weeks of veg to go.

IMG-1865.JPG

Added another 100w LED to the closet for veg.

You can see what the RO water did to the 3rd plant from the left in the bottom pic, and the plant in the top right of the top pic was the most impacted.

That's always a bonus! lol

Thanks. Had a rough day yesterday and had to pluck one of the plants. This was the one with the weird surface root structure and looks like this plant was doomed to fail. The seed caused the taproot to kinda wrap around itself and shoot out sideways vs straight down. As the plant grew and got heavier the stem and root base just kept pulling itself out of the ground. Roots were growing sideways and not filling the bottom of the pot meaning the lower half was staying soggy while the top was dry as fuck. RIP lil plant.

I've got a back up plant that's a few weeks younger but I might just go to flower with the 3 older/bigger gals.

you need to supplement your RO water with Calcium and Magnesium. Test the EC of your tap water and replace that. RO water is like a sponge.

I kept a amnesia haze once that did this. She never got over a foot tall and looked like shit the whole time. The buds were more like leaves it was weird. It may grow out of it it may not. I’d plant a back up depending on your space availability

Ripped that one out a few weeks ago, it wasn't going anywhere either.

DAY 51

This is starting to feel like an apocalypse journal. I told myself I would veg these out for a full 60 days before flowering, but damn my patience is running thin! SF4000 has been at 100% for about 2 weeks now a little over 24" away from the plants getting about 500-600 umol/s. I'll probably leave the lights at this height and let the plants grow into them. I'm pretty happy with the way things have turned out considering how rusty I am and how long I've been away using entirely new growing medium and nutrient lines. Still a long ways to go but so far so good :bigjoint:

IMG-1920.JPG

2 on the left have had 0 training, one on the right was topped once cause it was growing way too fast. Minor defoliation as I've gone along but nothing too serious.

IMG-1921.JPG

ISS & CM that are about a month old now. The ISS is supposed to be sativa dominant but at this point I'm pretty sure I got some indica dominant phenos based on how short they are and the leaf structure. I'm trying two different topping methods on each of these strains.

ISS(left): grew out 8 nodes, topped at the 5th, removed all growth up to the 4th, left 4 main fan leaves.
CM(right): grew out 8-9 nodes, topped at the 6th, removed ALL main fan leaves.
