Questions about edibles any other

Hi Folks,
I have been growing for over 10 years. I have saved ALOT of trim... all of it. Everything but sticks and stalks.
I am wondering if it is ok to use this old stuff to make butter?
I'll throw another question in here. Will extracting from a less than stellar plant yield oil of the same potency as oil made from any other plant.?
I love to cook already and I am eager to prepare a dish that will be appreciated for taste, presentation... and magic :- )

Look forward to replies and best recipes. I would like to give a greater significance to a "Loaded Baked Potato" or enhance a plate of scrambled eggs.
Thanks!

Hey. So im thinking if the trim is over a year old it may be signifigantly degraded depending on how it was stored. But besides that point, ive cooked alot of trim in my short time.

Most of my issue was potency and taste, i could not get my edibles potent enough with using raw trim. Ide have to use so much plant matter anything i made turned into green eggs and ham. Too planty tasting.

I gave up on trim, but im thinking if you could run an extract on the trim it would be much better, and use that in edibles. Ive never extracted trim though, and dont know the best method.

I store my trim and pooper buds with the same care as my top Nugs. I am certain I’ve used trim that was at least a year old in the past. Hell I’m about to make butter from my March 2021 harvest.

A few tips:

Slow and low - I melt butter into boiling water, add herb and let it boil for 10 min, stirring occasionally. The next step is 24 hours of simmer, you don’t want your mix to boil again.

Make it strong - I find an ounce per pound of butter to be a good ratio. You canuse more or less. But strong butter makes the best edibles. Think like a chef and not a stoner, weed butter tastes gross but if it’s strong you can use regular butter and weed butter in your receipt at 50/50 mix and have better tasting edibles that get you higher than a hippie on a helicopter ride. My cookies don’t really smell or taste like weed.

When you go to add water to your pot fill Whatever container you’re going to use to cool the butter in the fridge to the top and ooor that in your pot. You’ll lose some water to evaporation and you won’t end up with so much water you have to use multiple containers.

Pat it dry -When youhave the finished product, use paper towels to dry it as much as possible, freeze what you won’t use right away in weighed out chunks (I freeze ~45g chunks). Wet butter will grow funky / mold in the fridge.

Year old trim is fine if stored properly, you’ve never used year old trim, eh? Please don’t give bad advice to folks looking for help, it helps no one.

You’re doing something wrong / have a flawed process. What was your method for making butter?

See my tips above

Soo.. I made edibles out of my trim the other night. Turned out great... My suggestion would be to sift the trim and use the kief to make the butter. The kief doesn't take as long to get infused into the butter and it gives it a better taste. Plus most of it gets dissolved so when you run it through the cheese cloth there isn't a whole lot of leftovers.

I have been making cookies with dust/shredded/trim that was freeze dried over a decade ago.

So far no mold, or even change in appearances.

Still gets everyone ripped as.
1/4 cookie and it’s like a joint to the head.

I do two oz per batch- 32 cookies.
Using the bud butter technique.

The best part of cookies is the joy they bring people, and the stories I get back after people enjoy them.

I just want to get back and thank those who responded. I can assure you I won't be using any trim without appropriate proceing :- )
Please indicate your method of processing 10 year old low grade plants ?
I don’t even know your storage method but beyond a year is not something I would be using

Again .. Turning it into kief is much easier. Decarb it and then infuse into the butter for 10-15 minutes. I do temps between 150-180.. Any higher than 210 will burn the butter. It turns on very nice and has no plant taste!

You get a sift!! I use my TrimBin and rub the material on the top of it. You'll collect all the kief under the screen. It's very beneficial .. give it a try sometime

Idk about 10 year old stuff as others said must have degraded alot but anything is worth trying never put plant matter in just Like that Decarboxylate and then infuse it with butter gonna get a good trip

I love to cook as well, and rely on my senses alot when I am seasoning my food. No way in hell, would I think of using 10 year old herbs and spices in my food. Does your material still smell good to you? Your best bet is to process it into flavorless distillate, otherwise your butter will more than likely taste very bad.
There is a saying in the hash world: "Garbage in, garbage out"...that applies here. Less than stellar plants produce less than stellar everything else.

$4 at the grocery store, 1/2 oz of trim ground up, just shake the basket and tap the sides over a sheet of parchment paper. Should get over two grams of kief. I use a food processor but you could rough grind it through a strainer. I press it into hash but loose would be easy to cook with if decarbed first.
