Switching from MH to HPS for flowering

To avoid changing too many variable at once When yall are getting ready to start flowering, do you keep the MH bulb in for the first few days of 12/12 so they still have the familiar light with the new schedule before switching to HPS? Install the HPS for a few days in veg to get them used to the new light before flipping to 12/12? Or just change the bulb to HPS the same time you flip and call it good?

There should be no issue at all. I would change the bulb at the same time you switch the light schedule. I've done this with T5 to HPS, CMH to HPS and LED to HPS no problem.

If you want the plants to have more adjustment time then run the plants under 18/6 with the HPS for a week or two to get the plants adjusted. My buddy does that with a 24 light grow.. R&D man Research & Development buy a composition book and a couple good pens and start writing everything down so you can reference it later. All genetics are going to grow differently, require different treatment for optimal results. I have plants that drink half as much as other plants the same size. It's just unpredictable unless you record and repeat and record and repeat.

Mh until week 3 unless I'm trying to encourage some stretch.
Lol well chit, that's what um trying to gage a bit, not sure b if I want them to stretch or not. This is my first indoor grow. I've seen some plants on here flipped to flower barely out of the seedling stage that have damn near outstretched the tent. And also some beasts that were lst'd to fill out some serious canopy that only stretched another 1/1.5ft. I know all sorts of variants into it it... what I've come to the conclusion is more plants less veg and vise versa..

This is where I'm at right now, trying to determine headspace for flowering. Probably doesn't help its 5 different strains all growing very differently. 4x4x6.5 tent, 600w double ended air cooled hood. All plants have been topped once, chemical bride from ghs tipped twice that thing has been chugging.

I would give them say 5-7 days then flip them under mh for the the rest of the veg period.
If they are getting too tall you can tie them down or net them.

You need to grow any plant a couple of times to get the measure of it.

I use a Hortilux 1000w HPS from seedling-flowering. I notice no difference on stretch ect. I used to use metal halide-1000w from 1978- mid 90s, until they came out with the Hortilux HPS.

I grow trees in 20 gallon containers of Promix BX.
1-2 plants per 1000w Hortilux in a 4 x 4 area. Plant count depends on how long veg is, and strain. I got 22oz from a 12 years old cut old Barneys Farm G13 x Haze, and 60 days veg. I do veg in 5 gallon container, and transplant 3-7 days before flip. The root ball takes up 100% of the space when done. This starin gets huge indoors, but the new version sucks compared to the older version. Newer version is more Indica leaning. Ive had this mother plant since 2010. Reeks of cat piss, and flowers.
