Watering night before harvest

Hey guys

So I have this theory which I want to hear what you experts think.

I live in the Southern Hemisphere where it is super hot at the moment and have harvested some indoor in stages. 2 out of 8 plants so far.

I ran into this sort of by accident - I watered my plants the night before and then decided to harvest the next day.. My plants have been drying slower than normal so I reckon this is quite a cool tip IMO.

More water - slower dry

What do you guys think? Am I imagining things lol

Sure does! I water during the 2 days of darkness before harvest. With a dry time of 14 days. The buds were sticky potent but harsh. This year FLAWLESS FINISH® for 7 days then chopped & hung. This may be harsh too. ☮ Peace to you! Good luck.

You're correct. I try to water the day before chop.

No need for 48 hours darkness or using Flawless Finish.

For autoflower plants flawless finish sets the Bloom. Trichomes were cloudy pistols still forming? Safe to say a week or more to harvest. Flawless Finish sets the blooms all remaining nutes stored in roots & leaves are used to create a final burst of trichome production. Everything went from white to red pistols in 5 days. In a 72 to 94 day strain that is that & I like the milky trichomes. AN Flawless Finish customer support people are to blame, lol. Love & peace happiness in this marijuana madness.

I have always stopped watering my plants 3 days before harvest, I want the cut fan leaf stem to be dry, so the liquid from the stem don't drip into my buds, when I harvest my plants, I want the humidity to be as low as possible, just after chopping my plants the humidity goes up, take a day to two before it starts dropping.

My main concern at this stage is bud rot, I keep the temps around 18-20c and try to keep the humidity between 50-60

I am surprised there a lot of growers water their plants just before harvest, soaking wet buds have a much higher chance of bud root.

But that would be handy. Then you can plant a little rooted nug like a seed. :rolleyes:

It is a valid concern for sure esp in wet climates.

Imo key is to insure that for the 1st 3 days there is a rapid and steady loss of rh. After 3 days, slow it down to a crawl.

Flawless Finish which is just magnesium sulfate aka epsom salts.

I like to catch them right before the pot is almost dry then harvest for ease of disposal of the rootball. If a plant is getting where its too dry I will just give it a liter right at the base of the plant a day prior to harvest so its not floppy. lol

If you let the pot get too dry the plants are going to be more prone to being floppy and not easy to work with too. I pluck the fan leaves off before I hang cure for dry trim later so I don't have to go in and chop all the little crow's feet out of the buds when I trim. Seems to also give a more even dry cure due to big leaves not laying over buds.

Do you just make up shit as you go along and post it here to see how it sounds? Do you water your entire plant under the shower or what? How does watering plants lead to 'bud root"? Are my plants susceptible to "bud root" any other time I water or just before harvest? I watered my plants this morning before I left the house, will I have "bud root" when I get back home later?

Give us all your knowledge, I fear for my plants.

I don't wait for the leaves to wilt, just want the soil dry, as this helps to keep the humidity low and the buds dry quicker but, I do keep the temps low 20c and the humidity between 40-50%.

After I harvest my plants I turn the light out, the temps drop and the humidity rises (night)

After watering the plants the roots drink the water/ food, as the compost drys out, the water level in the plants slowly drop, when it's very low the leaf drops and the plant starts to wilt.
This effects all parts of the plant including the buds, I have chop my plants a few times when the compost is dry, the humidity stays low and the buds dry faster.



I want to chop the plants just when the leaves start to drop, I have tried this a few time,

No offense but the last thing you want is a fast dry

It's not the same as fast drying buds, my temps are around 20c and humidity is around 40-50%
So this will not degrade the THC
Keeping the temperature and humidity in range will give me the best quality bud.

Slow drying my buds over a week in low temps will give me high quality buds, if I watered before harvest, maybe it would take 10 days.

If you live in higher humidity watering at night can cause guttation that pushes droplets of water out of your leaf tips and it can contribute to bud rot. I've come out at night and every leaf has a perfect bead of water on every leaf serration. Now, I stop watering after 1 or 2pm in later flower and just let the pots dry back overnight and it seems to help alot in late flower.
Everyone has unique challenges depending on where they live, so what is helpful for one person may not be helpful for others.
