It is, they left virtually zero fan leafs to photosynthesize, you're supposed to leave at least 25% of them to allow the rest to bulk up to normal size within a few weeks
Not sure this works in mid flower, works in early flower.
There fully developed buds on the stems.

Means nothing, they still need a higher degree of leaf than is here to photosynthesize and grow bud to max potential, I defoliate flower day 1 and 21 and still have ample amount of leaf coverage

They have a higher chance of pulling around in early flower, at this stage they nave no chance.

Even coverage over the whole room @ 660w running @ 50% power.
The boards barely break a sweat.

Not a bad thing.
Have you ever tried this before?
If you have, how did it turn out, have you got any pictures?
I can't see this having a happy ending but I hope I am wrong.

I've done it in the past with a few plants. Journal link in my signature.

It's not something I usually do, but there's pro's and cons to defoliation. These plants will now grow differently than if I'd left them alone so I will have to make the necessary environmental/feed adjustments, but as long as that's taken into consideration these can thrive just as well if not better than if I left them alone. I'm only interested in harvesting tops this time around too.

Edit..
I'll post another picture in a few days after they recover.

That's great, just bear in mind lots of new growers will be looking at your diary and copying what you do, guess you're not watering for a week and you have cut the food back by half as this will cause the plants some level of shock?

I'm in dtw hydro, so they're watered daily. I'll feed 25% weaker base nutrients but keep the CalMagic at regular level.

The biggest change needed is with maintaining proper vpd. The room went from a sitting 70% rh to 39%, so adjustments to environmental controls is key to keeping me @ my optimal 1.2 pressure deficit.

It's nothing big, but if I didn't make the adjustments I'd run into the issues you see others have when trying it their first few times.
