Day 41
Not much happening, just thickening up and filling out. Don't like the camera of my Note 10

A bit behind on my journal, so let's catch up.
Day 46 of flower.
20220104_092338.jpg20220104_092456.jpg20220104_092741 (2).jpg20220104_092755 (2).jpg20220104_092805 (2).jpg20220104_092810 (2).jpg20220104_092817 (2).jpg

Need to do a bit of trimming, mainly remove fans that are covering other bud sites and some lower growth.
Wanted to get one of those CO2 bags to hang in the tent but alas fucked off too much and it's to late now.
I do have an HLG 30 UVA SUPPLEMENT on it's way and will run it the last three weeks or so.

Just a couple of my frosty Cookies & Cream @ day 50!
20220108_090612 (2).jpg20220108_090809 (2).jpg20220108_091004 (2).jpg20220108_091043 (2).jpg

Love the little tuffs of white hairs, indicating spurts of growth from doing a minor flush at rez change. When I have about a gallon left in the rez, I add about 5 liters of strained compost tea/RO to the tank and run one minute cycles about 5 minutes apart till the rez is empty. When i add the 5 liters the EC is @ 1.7 and after the addition of the 0.0 RO it is down to around 1.2 or 1.3, pH the solution and do the minor flush.
I get 7 days worth of feeding from a 21 gallon rez with just a small amount of solution left and it is to this that I add the compost tea/RO. This burst of grow occurs about two days after I do the mini flush.
Then I start a new rez, I pH every morning after the lights come on and I let the pH float during the day. I start the pH at 5.85 +/- and let it float during the 5 cycles to around 6.0 by the end of the 12 hour light cycle. I do not add compost tea every time I do the mini flush, some times just straight pH'ed RO water added to the remaining solution in the rez.

I believe I will be harvesting within the next couple of weeks, the trichs are just turning cloudy, maybe 40% or so. This 50/50 hybrid who's parents, GS Cookies and Starfighter #2, should finish in 56 to 63 days according to the breeder and they are putting out the fragrance.

Just a few pics at day 55.
I just changed the rez today, emptied and did a mini flush, cleaned the rez, added 21 gallons of RO with 4 ml Cal/Mag and 0.75 grams of Epsom per gallon and no additional nutes. Doing the final flush and should empty the rez around Wed of next week and will harvest at that time. pH'ed and running on same irrigation schedule, 5 cycles, 1st is one minute minor runoff, then the three center cycles are 50 secs with very little run off and the last cycle of the day is 1 min 10 seconds and getting a good runoff.
This is the first time running a week long flush, usually just do a two to three day flush but want to clean the root zone well. Have heard that flushing does not remove anything from the plant but I always get a good burst of growth so wanted to see what I would get doing it for a full week.
Love the purple, my tent temps are 80 to 82 lights on and 69 to 70 lights out, humidity around 40%. My shop temps are 75 to 77, and humidity is around 30%, love the low humidity during the last week or so of flower.

The new HLG 30 UV lamp I hung in the tent last week seems to have thicken the trichs but really hard to say the benefit, I should have put it in earlier.

It will go into the tent earlier next grow.

On Tuesday I had one plant showing purples, now most have some and a couple have a lot.

Thought this was interesting, double top, very frosty and turning purple also.
20220114_120809 (2).jpg

Not a lot of purple on the upper side of the leaf but most are purple on the underside, just thought this was one hell of a branch, the buds are fairly purple.

Well it has been 60 days since I started flower, breeder says 56 to 63 days. I really did not pay as much attention to the plants as I should have, but the seeds were a gift and I was unsure of the origin, The person that gifted me the seeds said she thinks these are Cookies & Cream and since this was my first grow with this new lamp I mainly wanted to see how they preformed under this lamp. I could have done more trimming and spread them better, this grow would have made a great SCrog and the production would have been higher also.

Today I did a flush with the remaining solution of pH'ed RO water with just Cal/Mag, Epsom and Cannazyme. Made this 21 gallon mix up
last Thursday, increased the run times about 10 seconds each and today there was around 5 gallons remaining so ran 3 -15 minute run times and the final run was about 8 minutes and emptied the rez. With lights out tonight at 8 I will shut down the lamp but still run the HLG 30 UVA SUPPLEMENT overnight and harvest tomorrow. One thing I have noted on most all my grows is that when I do a mini flush, after each rez is about empty I add 3 gallons of RO to what is remaining the rez, taking the ppm down considerably, is a burst of growth. This time I did the same but at the last rez fill I did not add any nutes, just RO, Cal/Mag and Epsom. You can see the white tuffs formed from running this flush.

Now for the HLG Scorpion Diablo. A little history, started growing with 400W HPS, did three grows with this lamp, was best for Vertical grow single lamp. The next lamp was a SS400 from Cal light works, used it for 4 grows and switched to two 315W CMH's. These lamp were great for vertical and horizontal grows, my best with this lamp was just over 2 lbs.
This grow I switched to the HLG Scorpion Diablo, the pics above were grown under this lamp. Started them under a 6 lamp florescent and moved them into the tent under the SC at about three weeks growth, Continued vegging them for around 4 weeks then flipped. I kept the dimmer at a power level of 4 to 5 for the first 10 days then increased the power level to 10 over the next few days. The lamp preformed great during veg and when I switched to flower I was really impressed. They started forming buds in 3 days and by day 21 they were rocking the buds. Buds aren't massive but I did top the shit out of them during veg so lack of bud size is made up by the quantity of buds made.. A you can see in the final two pics that trichome production is not lacking. Overall I am pleased with this lamp, does what they say it will do, the folks at HLG are super friendly and customer service is excellent. I with I had purchased the HLG 30 earlier as I only had it on the plants for about two weeks.
The plants were grown in a 70/30 coco/perlite mix using Canna nutes full line.
Based on my past grow experience I am guessing 24 to 28 zips, cured and in jars off this grow.

Good strong base, it is putting the fan on them right after sprout till repotting, then a stronger fan help build this.

And now we wait, check tent daily for temp/humidity and how they are drying.

During the remodel I found these old pics from circa 73, This came into Austin in a large cheese wheel container. bought 1 pound and man was it great.
I give you 1972/73 arm length buds from Oaxaca!
My half of the pound.
20220122_140543 (2).jpg
Still have this triple beam scale!
20220122_140645.jpg

Wow, I forgot how my Martin looked back then, it is showing it's use over the past 49 years, but still plays just a sweet!
20220122_140459.jpg

This bud is around 19 inches.

It was this discovery that led my Buddy and I to take my VW type III and make a road trip to Oaxaca, we were in search of the magical arm length buds. Long story but we found what we were looking for, bought a kilo and made a lot of people happy. BTW, it was $28 a kilo.

Ok, harvested on Tuesday, removed the lamp, drain tray, tray stand and the drain tub from the tent and hung whole plants. Humidity was 65% and I was think a good slow drying, but to no avail we had a cold front come in on Wednesday drop to todays is 20% in the shop and 26% in the tent. I even put a cup warmer in there with pot of water on it but the humidity is still low, drying way to fast. Going to add another warmer and pot of water to see if I can get the humidity at least to around 50%.
I am searching for my drying rack but with the remodel it is put up somewhere I can't find, but when I do I will remove the branches from the mainstem and put them on the rack. If the fan are dried I will remove them prior to placing them on the rack. Thinking I will fill at least 5 of the trays hopefully all 6 trays.

Yesterday I removed the plants from the tent, did a minor trim, removed some fan leaves and put them into each their own plastic bag to help draw out moisture. After 24 to 36 hours I will remove them from the bags, rehang them for another day or two then finish trim, remove the buds from the stems and hopefully they the will be dry enough to jar and begin curing.
This humidity is not what I wanted to be drying in, my normal humidity is usually between 55 and 65%, it was 30% in the tent this morning. They are drying way to fast, hopefully I will be able to control this or I may end up with harsh tasting buds.

Today after 33 hours I pulled them from their bags, spread the branches and rehung them in the tent. By spreading the branches I mean that when placed in the bag they tend to bunch up, which is not good due to the possibility of mold. So I bend all outer branches to the point of breaking them so all the stems separate and extend outward a bit, works great.
Now what is cool is that my humidity is back, tonight it is 61%, so now they will complete the drying process more slowly. Tomorrow evening the should be relatively dry, but, when I check them, if I can leave them till Tuesday that would be great. I have enough quart jar to house 24 zips, if I get more then I will have to take some of the Mimosa and Critical XXL out of their jars and put them in bags in the freezer to make FECO.
The buds are very firm, love that, not extremely large overall, due to the amount of topping I did during veg, some are nice size but most are medium size . Was very impressed with the weight of each bag, heavier than I expected. But with the buds being as tight as they are they are heavy. We will see! The fragrance is very Kush, sort of reminds me of the early Afghanistan but not near as skunky.
I am so ready to finish this grow. My GF of 10 years is moving in with me next weekend. Big step for both of us, especially at our age.
We plan on doing a road trip to the west coast then back though 'Utah and visit friends and family. Going to buy legal cannabis in New Mexico, Nevada, CA, OR, and Washington. Could not do that when I lived on the west coast.
Then it is back to grow more fun, not sure of strain yet but something TASTY!

Harvested, trimmed and jarred three plants today, 13.89 zips with two plants to go. When I say trimmed I am trimming more than any previous harvest. Even removing sugar leaves, but keeping them to make FECO. With the amt. of trimming I have done I an not going to reach my expected yield but it is going to be close.
Bagged the other two plants and will rehang them in the morning and try and do one prior to Dr. appt. then then second when I am done with the Dr.
Hopefully he will be able to tell me why I have lost 30 pounds in the past year, without dieting. Will be going over my CScan tomorrow.

Every thing harvested and jarred. 23.75 zips, missed my estimate by .25 oz. I did do much more trimming than I have in the past. Pics tomorrow, I am beat.
Did talk to my Dr's today, they found nothing in my CScan, prostrate is enlarged but I have had BPH for a number of years now, but no cancer.
