Joe plays Gandhi in public (a wise move), but behind the scenes I figure he is is a bit more harsh in his judgement of the republicans and Trump. I think Joe is making moves behind the scenes we won't hear about, if he had a real majority in the congress, it would be a lot different presidency. It might yet be, if they win big enough in November, then the agenda can be driven through in six months and the republicans exterminated as a political force in federal politics and Joe would do it too. Perhaps 1/6 was a Godsend for 2022 and if not for covid, you'd still have trump, everything has it's price.

Since the Reconstruction era, white supremacists in the South have used all sorts of coded language to identify themselves to like minded individuals. This "Let's go Brandon" phrase just shows how pervasive their influence has become in the Trump era. Trump made these people feel safe to air their heinous beliefs in public and chanting "Let's go Brandon" makes them feel part of a group, with all the protections that a herd provides.

I see very little being said here. What is apparent is a lot of emotion, indignant anger. This poster is offended by the suggestion that racism is most likely the default in this population.
A reasonable response from someone who really believes this isn’t so will say something like “lol fuck off with that”.
Someone genuinely threatened, which only happens when one cannot effectively refute the claim (because deep down it struck a chord)
behaves like this poster. “A struck dog hollers.”
I’ll refine the claim: most American whites have some ingrained racism in their beliefs. We have learned to hide our bigotry and express it in such vague terms that it is almost all by plausibly deniable implication (uh dude, that’s not what I said).
I grew up in the 60s in whitest suburbia I did not escape unscathed. I was fortunate to have parents who rejected racism of any sort as bad. They came from a highly civilized nation that had just barely survived its own disastrous experiment in fascism, and they (and over nine million exterminated as not really human) bore witness. The message was, the best people can be led to do the worst things. My dad did teach me the elements of critical thought. Much later in life, I had to identify and confront the racist ideas I’d internalized, always so sideways that I never figured it for bigotry. Reprogramming myself is a job not finished.
We’re all susceptible. We are human. But we have the capacity, and thus perhaps the duty, to do the hard work, unflinchingly dig out and explore deeply held wrong thinking, and work on not acting on that wrong thinking.
The cardinal mistake made by the majority to which this post so reacted, is to think “oh that isn’t me”.

People who object to the word combination “white people” do so only because they aren’t used to being stereotyped. When the letter writer considered every black stereotype and decided to ask if I was a gangbanger, it did not bother me. You know why?

I am also accustomed to living with the knowledge that my skin engenders certain thoughts about who I am. She does not have to navigate a world that presupposes her psyche on a day-to-day basis.
