Up to COVID and into late 2020 there's was shit load of weed being exported to California from BC. Part of that stopped with some large busts just after COVID. At that time I couldn't find anything descent for $1200 or less and was dry as hell. Once the second hard lockdown in Nov I think 2020 in BC and Canada wide there's was instant price drop. First it started with shrooms that I couldn't find for less than $1200 for LB for about 6 months before COVID, after the second lockdown they dropped to $600 over night down to $250/lb now. About 2 months after that price of weed here in BC took a dump to about $400-600 for the same stuff I paid $1200 for before. All of a sudden there's was 0 movement in selling weed. Only stuff that sold was "quads" which I was told was being traded for white and was still going for $1800-2000.About the border covid thing, I am done hearing that, Look at the cbp numbers and during 2020 and 2021 the amount of cannabis seized at the border skyrocketed.
because of covid truckers are not responsible for whats in the trailer if its sealed, since by precaution they do not enter the facility.
prices are down because the us is overproducing just like canada.
In cali the max sentence for growing is 6months, and people have been growing crazy amount in desert greenhouses.
just look at the bust in cali and oregon this year. It hasnt went up last spring because people were harvesting their light dep…
With in 4 months of the second lock down 60-70% of my customers closed for ever, these are people who also exported to EU so not just the US market. They made their money, had descent jobs but with such a prolonged price drop and almost nothing moved they decided to end it for good. Most of them have been growing for 20-30 years.
Why do it think it was the borders, well up to the second lock down it was fine and most in the hydro store part of the industry thought we were going to not be affected much from the looks of it.
Also US is not the only export, there was a huge market to the EU and China. 90% of that is gone.
Also since the MMAR lawsuit win there have been about 5 price drops like this (at least in BC) where I was grabbing great weed for $400-600/lb but those only lasted a couple of months each time as exporters loaded up and it was dry so price went back up.
For example right before this current variant there were buyers here looking for 1000's form shit to quads. I had people coming by asking to start collecting picks. Well that died as soon as there was talk of border and inter provincial restrictions. So yes border lock downs have lots to do with it. Are there other market forces also making changes, for sure but the border is the main one.
