McConnell: Manchin 'Certainly Welcome' in GOP
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell this week commented that Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is "certainly welcome" in the Republican Party following his announcement of his opposition to the Build Back Better bill.

The Kentucky Republican, during an interview on Monday on "The Guy Benson Show" podcast, said Manchin "doesn’t fit well over there, but that is a decision ultimately that he has to make. We certainly welcome him to join us if he was so inclined."

He also said that Manchin performed "the single greatest favor" he could for the United States by opposing the Build Back Better legislation.

So does this not make Manchin a DINO? I fully support any politician voting with his conscience even if it's not with his/her party's line but this looks like sabotage from the inside.

US politics have been so much more entertaining than what goes on up here the last decade or so but horror movies are not my fave.

Good luck in '22!

Not sure about DINO. I tend to avoid such ideological terms. But he certainly holds closer to the R platform (which abuses the word) than the Democrat one.

He's power tripping is what I think it is. Got everybody by the short hairs and loving it. Another indication the system is FUBAR.

No one person, other than maybe the president, should have this much effect on so many lives.

Considering how poorly other big projects seem to be running years late and up to 10X over-budget in the US according to a PBS report I saw recently expectations may be pie-in-the-sky dreams.

I recently commented on his delight to be in a position of unusual power. But to do so he had to break with the party.

I don't understand all the hate for Manchin. He's in a tough spot. The people that voted for him are trump supporters yet he's a Democrat. Imagine walking that razors edge.

It's damn West Virginia. A bastion of inbred pure white morons. Beautiful country, too bad the people are so screwed up.

He is a mole.
What he is doing is sabotaging the Democrat agenda.

From your response I cannot exclude the possibility that you are kinda cool with that.

That senator is so much enjoying being the kingmaker and dealbreaker.

So you'd rather have someone like Steve King?

The fact that he votes majority Democrat is nothing to scoff at. The alternative is someone like marjorie taylor greene Manchin is one a few Democrats that can even win in areas like West Virginia. You might not like him but he's better than the alternative trumper. Be happy with a 50/50 vote from that state.

From the bit I’ve looked up (on your impetus) of Steve King, I have to say no. He is a corrosive rightie.

I don’t quite agree with the second half. He ran as a Democrat, and owes the party to an extent I don’t know. It’s wrong for him to run as an R wolf bearing the pelt of a D sheep.

(not a sheeple reference)

Manchin is not up for re-election until 2024. This might be his last, so what does he care?
But that POS will get re-elected, no doubt about that.
Fuck W. Virginia and Manchin
POS state that all it does is suck your tax dollar thru welfare & do not a fucking thing but get the fuck in that way.
They should have no say whatsoever on the direction this country goes.
They're stupid, ugly & half of them don't have a fucking tooth in there head.
And they had the deciding vote?
Fuck me in my ass, it would probably feel better than listening to Manchin.
Fuck Democracy, throw them the fuck out and send Manchin with them.
He's fucking usless as a Democrat & if possible at all throw that fucker out of the Democratic party
He's a detriment to the DNC & let the Republicans have him.
No loss whatsoever.

You're right on everything. The fact that the Democrats have had his vote for so long is amazing. Take what was gotten and move on. The parties over.

He tilts the Senate Democrat so I'm glad he's there instead of somebody from the party of traitors. If he were my senator, I'd hate him. I'd work to find somebody better. I'd still vote for him over one of the traitors. It's complicated. But I support democracy and the people of W VA voted for him. I honor that.

Manchin is worse than a Trumper.
He stabed all his fellow Democratic Senators/Congresspeople in the back & he talks about bi-partnership?
Fuck the GOP, doesn't he understand that Republicans want all the Democrats dead.
And he wants to talk to those fucking mongrels?
He a fucking self-delusional bitch.
No mercy for Republicans, none, zilch
Do this Nation a favor.
Shoot on sight.
Yea, I know
That's not right to feel that way
Too fucking bad
I mean it

(tangent) My congressman is McCarthy.

Mine, for now, is Peter DeFazio in the House. He's calling it quits next year.

Peter DeFazio won his last election by something like 20,000 votes. His opponent then was Alex Skarlatos, of the Qanon type Republicans. Skarlatos will probably run again in 2022 and House Republicans think they can take the district.

Here's a bit about Skarlatos:

" late January 2021, Skarlatos did share his thoughts on the Capitol riot in an interview with conservative media organization Newsmax: “Honestly, I just thought that the liberal media was going to use this for the next six months to demonize Trump supporters, and it looks like that is exactly what they’re planning on doing.”

Skarlatos later adds that what “bothered” him about the Jan. 6 incident was that social media was trying to shut down “the other side,” rather than let people have a healthy debate. "
