Has anyone got any tips or advice as to how to achieve a good shaped plant beyond just topping them? I guess scrogging would be the ultimate goal but I would prefer to keep my plants movable ! I see some people have pulled plants over sideways and got a nice result and others seem to have managed to get a plant to just spread nicely. Any ideas on how to achieve this ?

Using pipe cleaners to gently pull the branches flat then secured to some pre-drilled holes in my plastic buckets until she was spread as much as I wanted. This girl below was nearly 2 square feet when I finished spreading her - almost as large as a when I SCROG:
... but she was still mobile.

As soon as the branches are capable of reaching the pot's edge when stretched out, is when I start my LST. I snip the lowest node off each lateral branch, so the middle can fill in.
I like my plants to look like "this" when it's time to flip. My next thing to dial in, is branch height to keep the canopy level.

Look up the mainling or manifold threads. It's one way to keep a nice even canopy while controlling the # of bud sites you are going for, no need for a net. Keep in mind, without a net you'll need to support the buds in the final couple of weeks when they pack on weight. I like to keep my plants mobile if necessary too. Also look into supercropping-you can do it to any buds that want to grow beyond canopy height to keep it even.
Mainline or what I like to do is the LBH 4 way from grow weed easy is the fastest and imo the best way to train in the shortest period of time and have your plants be mobile. They write it up as a scrog but I don’t do it that way.
