Need Advice Grow #2 ScrOG

Hi all,

So I thought I was ScrOG'ing right but now I think I am doing something wrong. I just flipped to 12/12 two days ago. I originally thought that I had to wait till most of screen was filled before flipping. I regularly trim under screen removing growth, suckers, and anything that won't hit the screen. So my underside is pretty clean/lollipopped.

So I guess this is my question. I have seen lots of different varying guides and opinions on ScrOG'ing. Some say that all pruning should be stopped 1 week prior to stretch some say it should go until week 2-3 while plant is stretching, and then after week 3 of 12/12 should only be removing select fans that are blocking light to buds. Which is the correct way?

Second question, so what I have been doing is pruning the bottom half of every branch. Then wait till tip grows 3-4 inches above screen then pushing it back down through hole and moving it out one space in the grid which allows next node to grow up and through screen. Tying to screen when needed.

Is this correct? Should I be tying down the smaller nodes as they pop through? When should I stop ScrOG'ing and just let bud points grow upward? One bud point per square? Should I cut off smaller bud points that are close. Gris is 3.5x3.5 in.

I'm growing 6 MK-ULTRA in a 4x4 area each in a 5 gallon pot they are 28 days out of solo cups. Screen is set 12 in above pot tops. Using no nutrients only 100% organic soil mix (heavily amended my own recipe). Soil pH is sitting at 6.8, I water 2x a week with one airborne tablet (dechlorination and micronutrients), 2 tbsp unsulphured Molasses, and 1 tbsp/gal Roots Organics Trinity pH adjusted to 6.0, runoff is usually 6.4-6.5. I do daily foliar feeding (ending @ the end of week 2 flower) of brewed EWC, Airborne Tablet, and just added in BioCanna Bio-Boost (will go to substrate with bio boost after week 2 flower). Temperature is 75-85 max. Humidity is 40-60% max.

Looks good. I'm still kinda learning too, but I feel like your canopy should be fuller, like this...

Note: that's a second scrog I put up to support branches after stretch.

What light are you using?

Just got the Mars Hydro 2000 waiting for a second light to come in Vivosun VS 3000.

So I guess this is where my confusion is. Once flower is initiated am I continuing to adjust branches in grid squares or just letting them grow vertical through grid now, and moving them out anymore?

I think I am supposed to be continuing to extend branches away from plant center exposing stuff still stretching to light.

At what point do I cut off growth that won't extend to grid. I have read that it should have been done 1 week before 12/12, another source stated that I should let plant go through stretch for 2 weeks and then trim off anything below screen and or any branch that is not at least 1/2 the height of the plant.

Then from some reading I was doing says from end of week 3 to end of week 4 remove large fans blocking light to buds sites. Then don't prune from week 5 to harvest.

My 4x4 grid has 188 squares currently I would say 155ish squares currently filled.

I continue to weave branches until they don't grow vertical anymore for the most part, and if there's room to do it. Eventually it'll fill out and you won't have anywhere to stuff a branch. Lol. That's where getting to know you're setup, and strains comes in handy.

I remove fans that are blocking all thru flower. Not a lot at a time, and that's only if I can't adjust them to somewhere that's not blocking a top.

There's a learning curve to it. You'll see at harvest time, what you could've done differently to have made it better, but you can apply that knowledge on next runs.

Day 1 and Day 20 of Bloom are the safest times to prune or defoliate when Flowering has been triggered per a few big names.

From what I understand there are hormonal changes the plants making in the other days you do not want to disrupt. I have followed that rule and been fine where other times I've stripped plants down 5 weeks into flower and still had great results.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm going to reply a picture when I get home to see if things look right. I got a conflicting comment the other day that made me second guess myself. My first grow I did 1 plant per 3x3 and spread the canopy to fill the whole thing.

Thanks for the tip. My last grow I didn't get much stretch due to having to prune during the stretch because I had a spidermite outbreak.

Should I lower or raise the light during the stretch? I know raising the light will induce more stretching vertically, but I also know that you want to lower light in bloom for greater light concentration.

That's what I do...

I'm not saying my way is right, but it works for me. I know there's better, more efficient ways of doing it. I'm still learning strains and setup, so hopefully it gets better each time.

That's what I'm doing too. There's is so many conflicting points of view.

Do you have multiple bud points in each square?
Sometimes. My squares are 4x4 though, and sometimes i don't have a choice. The only way you're gonna know how you want it, is to try the different ways. See what works for ya.

Yeah you have to specifically google 3 inch by 3 inch scrog or trellis. Even then you have to sift thru the bullshit that google tries to sell you.

This will be my first grow without using a scrog & I have to say, I'm really excited.
No more combat crawling to the back of the tent to water.

I'm going to use lst clips, and yo yo's to hold her up.
I might use stakes just to hold her upright at the stalk, but just one per plant.
I'm growing in 10 gal pots so there isnt a ton of room for multiples (stakes).

You only have the 1 plant? @Hollatchaboy - I'd go ahead and just run that scrog.

Yea, just the one. It's all personal, So I don't need that much. I just have fun learning and doing it.

Your canopy is spot on, love it.
I like using 4" x 4" for my scrog when I do them, one shoot per square, in late flower, the shoots should put a lot of weight on so they tend to be 2-3" thick if the have the space and light, you don't want the shoots packed too tight or you get of stretched thin cola's.
thin the plants out antill 3 weeks in flower 12/12.
