Trichomes, clear vs amber

You could be damaging your trichs every time you check. I personally never try to touch my buds unless absolutely necessary

And even then. Very gentle
Oh I am gentle and I’ve heard the debate. Since I’m organic my logic has been that I’d much rather have a few broken trichs than bugs or mold in my buds. Every morning I armor up with my loupe, magnifying glass, bug tweezers and flashlight and stay that way until after dark. I have both blue and amber lights so I can see about anything. Lately it’s become an hour + job to look at everything and I’ve gotten better at spotting problems so in all honesty now I use a magnifying glass and flashlight and use the loupe for anything that looks odd. It has become a quest lol. I bet I get at least a little smoke out of this project

This is insane! All those damaged trichomes are gonna be making you think the plants have Amber weeks before they are done. I cant imagine fucking with my plants like that every day. If you’ve got bugs deal with them, if not stop being parinoid and fucking with those poor plants.

I know many on here don't like to use trichomes as an indicator anymore, I myself do still look at them when judging harvest time, but also take into consideration how the buds naturally look, swollen, etc.
Anyway, I see a lot of people telling others to wait until half are amber etc... Jorge Cervantes writes in his indoor horticulture book that clear trichomes are at their peak of THC, while amber shows THC diminishing, as they are beginning to decompose in a way. Hard to have big swollen buds though without trichomes turning amber already...

What do you guys think about that statement, clear vs amber and THC content?

It's a personal choice of flavors and highs. It's what you the smoker like the most. If you like the clearer more thc buzz then you'll want to harvest a little earlier knowing that you won't get as dense of buds and vice versa if you like the more couch lock cbd buzz, you would harvest a little later when the buds are a bit harder and denser.

Same thing goes for harvesting for the purpose of making hash. It's a matter of what your personal end goal is.

No no no. Strain dependence is based on genetics. Not early harvesting weed. Your grow weed till ripe. That’s it. No other way.
early picked is unripe. Green Tomatoes.

Well, no, that’s not really true either. This has been a method of harvesting that’s stood the test of time, and if you harvest when your trichs are cloudy, the high won’t be as heavy and have as much of a couch lock effect. Harvesting fully amber trichs will mean that the cbn is fully matured and will give you the heaviest effects possible for the strain you are growing. All technology and new methods aside, just because you harvest your dope when you have milky trichomes doesn’t mean your bud is immature. It absolutely is a preference.n I’m not a new member. I’m a very very old member. Just a new account.

Early harvested weed is immature. Nothing you can say around that. Don’t be that guy “old member”.

I base in the color of concentrates for some harvest. If not. I don’t care. I go by what the flower looks like. Swollen. Pretty. And that crossed over smell. Then usually about a 1/3 of my trichs will be amber. Rest cloudy. None clear. That’s what I like.

but like I said above. If I harvest for shatter or bho. Im harvesting when the plants trichs are milky mostly. Give me a more blonde color
I've never noticed that. Mine first runs are always golden, and they get progressively darker as the material gets older. Oh the other hand I've seen some extracts that are clear / whitish looking. I always assumed that they were using a CRC filter, but maybe they just pulled their plants really early.

The test of what time? People have been growing weed for decades and harvesting without going by trichomes but by the look of the plant.

Some plants don't amber and some amber well before they're close to being ready.

I’ve chopped my plants the first week they turned milky, and I noticed much more energy in my high, and more steady head high. Now then when I’ve pulled them later from the same batch that being Durban poison. It was much more intense a lot more heavy on the eyes, when the trichomes were amber colored but both were nice I always say if you want energy pull them earlier if you want to sleep or eat pull them later

That's because there is more thc in the mature plants. I let my last run go for over three months, and every trichome I could see was full on amber. I haven't noticed any greater couchlock effect than with anything else I've grown.

All your noticing is the cbn production a tad higher resulting in more hunger and increased effects on the down side.(ie. sleepy) However.
You can’t harvest early and expect ripe mature flower. Just doesn’t work that way. If you want a racy high. Go hunting. Otherwise. Your really hurting yourself of quality cannabis and it’s true effects

And if harvesting correctly. Much higher THC content.

I was kinda surprised when i saw that Cervantes video of him saying clear heads were "peak". I've always read elsewhere that "milky/cloudy" indicates highest psychoactive effect.
