Broken Stem Splint..

Broke a Cola Stem earlier while not paying attention and wanted to use something more breathable than tape, gauze etcetera...
With a length of straw as a splint and 1 of my girlfriends hair clips I think I have a new piece of gear..
The hair clip has a great spring so this combo is actually super solid..

I've used duct tape on plants almost broken in half...works great......blows tape right off...

I've used it as well, however I just wanted to see if I could come up with something that might heal a little better and faster with all that extra air flow...

I found some small metal spring clips at dollar store, cliped on direct had same effect. Dont forget it there. Agree that its less evasive than tape. And airflow not hindered. I didnt use splint. How about a pic of the girls?

Lights are off now..
Still nursing them back after the poor feeding job my neighbor did when I was gone for the past 3 and half weeks..
I guess I can't complain. He tried.. lol

Good idea......one time I was moving a staked down plant, forgot to remove stake, almost broke main trunk in half, it was bad.........good old duct tape saved it...healed quick.

Good old fashioned paper painters tape allows air flow and you can even mist the wound thru it

It seems to me that the branch would heal and function better without airflow. When I don't tape a break it looks all jagged and gnarled afterwards. When I tape it, it looks like more like it was super cropped than broken afterwards. This is from memory, so I could be wrong.

For me the duct tape has always worked great, maybe that's why.

I use electrical tape because it can expand as the plant grows and is way easier to peel back off.

I’m tape all day long if it’s bad break or supporting any weight I cut 3” of a drinking straw cut along the side so straw open up and slide on to the branch then tape that up or if big thick branch do same as the straw but with garden hose

The only reason I switched to painters tape is writing on duct tape can wash/rub off
And space is at a premium in my rooms so I dropped the duct for painters tape
Works for splinting and marking plants and clones

Using it for tags is brilliant. I've been trying to figure out what to use instead of buying more of the white plastic tags. I'm about to clone a bunch of plants for potential mothers, and need to number the clones as well as the corresponding mothers. Thanks!

Drafting tape which is a low stick masking tape also used by artists.

I've used electrical tape, scotch tape, masking tape, duct tape, etc... All worked.

Tape, clamps, straws, whatever gets the job done.

Gorilla Glue. Not the strain. Actual glue to hold it back together.

I had a trunk literally blow the duct tape right off.......the break left the trunk in that spot much thicker. I've read that after a break and healing, the area is stronger than before.
