Hi Guys, Back already I know I was wondering if anyone could share their experience using a 600w Hps grow light and what sort of coverage to expect? Number of plants or square feet, I had originally setup 2 of them in a 31 square feet tent but due to heat issues and thinking it was a bit much for what I had going on I switched to just one, However I wasn't make use of anywhere near the capacity of the tent, I have been researching lights/lumin coverage and I wondered what peoples thoughts would be on using the 600w HPS in the 31square foot tent and would it be enough light for say 8-10 plants? Perhaps with the use of one of those probalic umbrella things?

One 600w hps covers up to a 4x4 space. The number of plants does not matter. You can fill that space with 1 plant or 50.
So that is 16square feet per 600.
If you are having heat issues in a 31 square foot room with 2 600s you got a lot of work to do.
Most likely need AC.

Ah I was prior but this was during the summer where it was hot, Heats not been much if an issue for me since swapping to one light and its got cooler, ah thankyou so 16square feet per 600w light, it's very mixed online there are posts saying one 600w hps has a coverage of 36sqf which sounds great! But unlikely

I mean you can try. Just feel like the stuff on the outside is going to be a country mile from the bulb.
strip led are a nice solution to even coverage.
But they ain't fucking cheap.
I used to use a 600w in a 2x4x7 tent. So 8 square feet lol.
I also use 2x 600w hps fixtures. You can get away with 9 plants under one, if the plants are medium size, grown in 3 gallon pots etc.
I'm currently only using one of them in a 4x4 tent and it's great for that. A 4x4 tent is 16 sqft and double that gives you 32 sqft so you are correct to use 2 lights in that space. I'm in the same boat as you, it's creating too much heat for me at the moment because I'm now using our wood stove for heat in the basement, so I'm going to have to buy an LED fixture to use during winter months when I'm using the wood stove. Otherwise I need to have the tent wide open with the fan blowing in to cool it down in there.

I would love some Leds definitely worth the money but it's the initial payout thats the problem currently, I think for now I will just stick to using half the space and using just the one light, Thankyou for responding!
Ah that's great glad to hear I'm sort of grasping it more now heats such a pain in the ass.. gets bloody warm with just one light running at night with all the ac turned on two would be horrendous for me..Good luck with yours!

Sounds like a good plan.
My led on max put out almost as much heat as the hps. So yes better...and better coverage. But not as much a difference as I expected. I can run the led on half power for a lot of the grow tho. So that saves on power and I run the fans lower. But In flower fans are maxed.
I wouldn't have expected that at all! I assumed all LED's were much cooler than any HID light. What light are you using?

I do not remember what I had my inside temp set to with the hps. I may have had to set my ac to 73 or 74 in the summer with the hps. I do not remember. I ran it at 77 this summer and the tent gets 84 with led on 100% 6" blower 100%.
The hps would go 86 or 87 I think.

Key with LED is you can use less Watts to light an area so less heat generated.
But you can air cool a HPS.
Pros and cons to both.

I have to ask what dimensions your tent is to give you 31sqf?
I'm guessing by your name your on my side of the pond.
Heat shouldn't be an issue providing your ventilation is adequate and set up correctly. At least at this time of year.
Obviously run lights on through night and off in the warmest time of day as my good man above stated.
As for coverage of a 600 hps, 4x4 is fine in flower , some like a 1000w in 4x4, some like a 600 in a 3x3 or 1m2 space.
IMO a 4x4 in flower with a 600 is a bit weak but you will get more out of the light in a 4x4 than a 3x3.
As for plant count, that only affects overall time to fill the space. 4 plants is good buy takes longer veg, 16 plants a lot less veg time.
It's about light per space not light per plant.
Good to know. I was planning to buy an LED to use in the second tent. Tent #1 has the exhaust fan, tent #2 ducts into #1. So the exhaust fan is basically pulling fresh air through tent #2 and into #1 then out the wall. This causes tent #2 to be a bit warmer. Might just stick with my HPS and leave a fan on it if the LED wouldn't be much cooler.Cypress 4

It is def cooler. But not like 20 degrees or something. 5 or 6 i guess.
