Is it okay to have 24/0 light schedule?
Are they healthy ?I have always kept mine on a 24hr light cycle. It's nice to not need a blacked out room or worrying about disturbing them during their slumber. I couldn't care less about the tiny amount of electric I'm saving, because they aren't cranked up flowering lights.
From what I've seen there isn't much of a difference between plants under different light cycles. If anything 24hrs prevents them from stretching as much. Are they healthy ?
By growing indoors? I've never had pests that a few sticky traps and less watering didn't fix. Knock on weed. How do you apply ipm?
I’ve been running them 24hr for many years without a problem. Same with mothers. I’ve kept them alive for several years under nonstop light. The Effect of Darkness on Photosynthesis
Plants and some single-celled organisms use photosynthesis to transform water and carbon dioxide into glucose. Light is essential to this energy-generating process. When darkness falls, photosynthesis stops.sciencing.com
Plant Metabolism and Circadian Rhythms
While all plants need sunlight in some capacity to survive, they have metabolic processes that continue in darkness. One example of a light-independent process is the Calvin cycle, whereby carbon is captured and converted into stored energy using energy that is stored from other photosynthetic reactions during the day. Another is respiration, where oxygen is combined with stored food to make it usable. Plants usually produce oxygen during the day due to photosynthetic reactions and use oxygen at night due to respiration.
Owing to their internal circadian rhythms, while it's dark, plants anticipate the coming of dawn and prepare for it on a cellular level before their chloroplasts are stimulated by light.
In short, darkness plays a significant role in plant growth, influencing chloroplast distribution, leaf shape, growth patterns and the duration of daily cycles.
