VEG cycle, fan leaves

So ... When would you remove fan leaves (if ever). I never know when to prune those back. Tent height is 80 in. Chocolate, Strawberry Lemon Haze and Strawberry Cough...all sativa's. Largest plant is the chocolope in the back. It's right at 60 days old from seed. The other two are 35 and 38 days from seed respectively. Is that too soon to push those on to 12/12 light cycle? Figure if anything I'll give it at least another week... But who knows?

Well... "flushing plants before harvest" is not done by the horticultural industry. Defoliation, on the other hand, is practiced, for example in the cotton industry.

I'm not among those who think that Cannabis is a magic plant that deserves deviating from agricultural practices developed over millenia.

Plants of that size should never be defoliated. A little right at flip is fine, but new growers should avoid the practice-it's something you should look at after you've tuned in feeding/light/training etc. Having extra leaves can make or break a grow if something goes wrong.

That is so true, and it also gives you the opportunity to see the difference. As in "OK, this time I've defoliated, is this actually a better result than last time?"

I can see the temptation to defoliate, though (same with flushing). It means you have "done something to the plant", and more is better, right? The plants grow so slowly, it can be infurating having to wait and just do nothing, even when that is most often the right thing.

I did not say that I think "defoliation good. you defoliate, you win".

What I said is: it's not obvious that defoliation is always bad (or good). If it was obvious, there would be no pitch forks.

"Flushing before harvest" is a different topic. It is much more easily demonstrated that it does next to nothing. Also it is not practiced anywhere except in Cannabis growing circles.

That plants got a great frame, no reason to do anything.

It’s the super dense bushy ones that need thinning out in some cases.
