Anything I could use to press hash from kief in a large vice?

Just curious as to what I could use to press kief into hash bars using a large vice. I see the hydraulic presses but the prices are bullshit when I could just use a large vice.

Being thick aluminum im sure they would be strong enough, its the depth that i would be concerned with. But a little modification of the outer shell should be do able. Ive been meaning to try this if i could save enough kief i need to stop throwing it all into my coconut oil extractions. Let me know if you decide to try it. Good luck ... JD

I tried one of the hand held ones you turn the handle of Amazon. First off it had a razor sharp edge ( which I could never find) that sliced my hand several times while turning it. Then I noticed my hand was bleeding in several places and wrapped it in a towel to turn. On top of that the bolt broke and the bottom seized. It took me forever to get that thing out wasting most of the product in the process and getting shavings in some. I
Was stupid enough to purchase a different one which I packed, pressed and never retrieved the contents from. So here I am looking for a new method.

Instead of using a metal contraption that can leave metal shavings in your product, I would try this.
Get a wine bottle and a turkey bag, also a mixing bowl that the bottle can be set diagonally in.
Fill the bottle to the point it won't spill while setting in the mixing bowl and place it in the microwave. Then begin heating the bottle of water in the microwave to a boil.

Cut the turkey bag so that it is a single layer.
Put the kief in a pile on the bag material. Then fold the bag material over the kief.
You want the kief to be in the center area of the bag material.

With pot holders remove the wine bottle and cork it.

Now use the bottle, with pot holders, on the kief pile, as a rolling pin. Work from the center of the pile out in all directions. Flatten it out then flip the bag material over and repeat the same action on the other side.
Now the kief should be one mass.
Carefully and quickly pull/ snap the bag material apart. Then fould the hash onto itself.
You can repeat the process a few times.
At this point it can be molded into any shape you like.
Also watch all the Frenchy Canolli videos you can find. He had the best way of demonstrating the process you will ever find... RIP Frenchy...
Good luck friend.

I just use a C-clamp, a couple pieces of wood, aluminum foil, and some kind of mold. I also have a metal tube with 2 caps that fit inside from either end that I fill and use a C-clamp with as well.

It works for me and I can make all kinds of shapes.

I’m wanting to do this on a larger scale than what’s in my grinder. Like specifically do a grow just for this reason. I would like to press it into small bricks like you see that it comes in. I ended up ordering a 2x4 mold and we'll see how that goes

Gotcha. That's kinda what I thought. I love hash and a good portion of my harvest is dedicated to making it. Are you going to do dry sifting or bubble hash to get the material?
The method I mentioned has just become my favorite. I roll everything into cannolis or temple balls each of which is normally 5-7 grams. Then I let them age a few months or more.

I have been up until now doing bubble bags with less than impressive results a huge mess/amount of work. I just discovered the dry ice method and it totally blew my mind. I got like 10 times more with 20 times less hassle. You owe it up yourself to try it!

I have and I still prefer bubble or dry sift. There's less contamination from the other plant matter. Though it does have its merits in some situations. Like if you were to press rosin with the keif.
When making bubble are you doing it by hand or using a washing machine? I started using the machine and love the results.20210208_183054.jpg
That's over 30 grams, cant remember the actual amount but do remember it was about an 11% return. And it was mostly from trim. There were some smallish buds in there too but mostly trim.

Shit man I’ve done it several times with a drill and a paint stirring attachment as well as an egg beaters. I would get like 5-7 grams. I used popcorn buds and sugar leaf which a lot of times still looked like it had some left even after beating the shit out of it. Then I would dry it and get a pathetic little disc. I started using only the work bag and the 25micron because it wasn’t worth it to get a bunch of little birdshit sized dollops. With the dry ice I had like 50 grams of very resinous buds which were very airy and dried. My jaw dropped when I saw the shit hitting the table. What was left over was ground flower that I sifted the few small bud stems out of and made brownies.

I used dry ice. I did a mix of fresh frozen, trim and bud

I found a guy on YouTube who makes mold some once everything arrives I'm going to give it a go

Bought a 6 ton press for car stuff off Amazon might upgrade the bottle jacke to a 12 ton later if it needs it.

Do you think it would be better if I put the mold in the oven to heat it to 180f and the. Press ?

I actually just warm mine up filed with kief and put together with a hairdryer until it’s hot to the touch right before I press. It has some kind of paint they used to color it that I’m worried about heating because to be honest I’m not sure wtf they do when they press buds with it but I’m using it for pressing kief. I also use blue tape like you use for painting to keep it together so it doesn’t come apart on me. I press it sideways in a huge vice and use two laminated wood flooring samples from Home Depot on each side so the metal part of the vice doesn’t scratch it plus it comes out more even. So far so good. I also recommend you remove your compressed hash while still warm. It you wait until it’s cold it’s likely to break an edge off. I also cut some parchment paper a little wider than the top and bottom and that keeps it from sticking though it still sticks a tiny bit on the sides. That’s a pretty cool set up. Where did you get that mold???
