Hey guys so i i’ve upgraded to a 5x5 grow tent to house 4 plants & i’m struggling to find a good light for under $1,000 . i’ve boiled it down to the Growers Choice ROI-E720 or the SF7000 & not sure which to grab . any suggestions for 4 plants in a 5x5 for under 1k or which one out of the 2 i should get ?

I'd suggest you open up your alternatives a little, I'd look for 4 x200-240w lights, one centered over each corner, for better spread and flexibility for the future.

Do you think 4 Mars Hydro TSW2000 ( 1 over each plant ) would be good ? total of 1200w for a 5x5 space . it says it can cover 4x4 veg & 3x3 flower . i kinda feel like that would be to much but i’m not sure still new to all this

5X5 at least 800W. I recommend several smaller lights rather than 1 large, easier to hang & adjust.
Shop around & take your time, I found 1,120W of LED QB's, Samsung Chips & Meanwell drivers for about $1,250Cdn
A dimmer is also a good idea.

Good luck

The Grower's Choice ROI-E680 fixtures have a known widespread issue of the drivers failing and turning on bars when they're supposed to be off. The company is well aware but hasn't sent out any notifications or recalls. This happens even with their branded digital controller. They don't care if your crop is severely damaged due to light pollution caused by their faulty drivers. They just released an "upgraded" ROI-E680S with drivers that supposedly work correctly it looks like they have less diodes though, so you'll be pushing them much harder to reach 680w. Also, they won't upgrade your old ROI-E680 fixture until you have photo or video proof of it failing. So pretty much you have to wait and catch it in action when these fixtures decide to wreck your medicine. Keep in mind they can turn on at ANY time throughout their off period. Tell your friends and family. Quality medicine is what we all strive for and this public service announcement is to continue this goal. I have many of these fixtures and feel betrayed by the company. Attached is a third party test of their ROI-E420 as well

Do yourself a favor and go with 720 roi growers choice , if ina 5x5 ur gonna want a frame on ur light thats 46x46 or 48x48 for even light distribution

Se-7000. Bar style has wayyyy better light distribution. Easier to manage heat... and is higher wttage

2688pcs Samsung diode, detachable driver to be placed outside the grow area...

love love love my se-3000...and with a coupon or two....you can get yourself pretty darn close to 1$ per watt... I did with the se300091+1x6qKMEL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

I run my se3000 only 10" above the plants... zero light burn....

If I understand the issue correctly: these units have a dimmer/controller/timer incorporated, it dims all the way to off. But for this controller to retain it's internal clock it needs mains ac. It is not an ideal way of doing things cause there's both the issue with timer and that the dimmer is not always reliable to dim all the way to off. In either case it's always better to have a hardwired solution that doesn't depend on main ac. Power outage will probably only be more present in the future.

I have a couple 720s it has a built in dimmer that goes to off but no timer. now if opp is saying dimmer is turned to off an the light is coming on thats a problem other than that the timer or the controller is bad not the light. I run mine with remote timers an they have batteries to keep the time right incase of power going out.

Well... if you looked at anything I linked. People have had disgusting grows with se7000, also the driver routinely pulls 800watts....and its par map is unmatched at its price range, which with coupons can be had for like 800$... and it will flower 5x5 no problem.
A ceiling full of Qboard's distributes pretty evenly...

Plug the numbers of pretty much any 650w+ into the calculator on cocoforcannabis.com

roi 720
se 7000
Mars hydro fc/fce 8000

all fine lights that will effectively flower out a 5x5 area and cost less than 1000

true, Ive only owned one brand, so I figured i'd rep it....and give support its treated me really good (se3000), but yeah they're all really really kinda close around the 700 watt area, all samsung diodes....meanwells.. etc etc, i got 100$ off with amazon code tho.. so check that!...prolly could snag se7000 for 800$... almost to that 1$/watt mark everyone loves.
