Why are light leaks more detrimental indoors?

So, I've grown photos outdoors for around three years. I never had any re-veg or Herm issues with my photos despite being very VERY lax with guaranteeing darkness for 12 hours as I have entertainment lighting and live in a complex with ambient lighting.

I have a bunch of Jack Cleaner 2 photo fems here that I'd like to run indoors, but the tents are in my bedroom and cop residual lighting through the bottom vents hence running autos so far.

Should I waste my time, or keep growing autos if I can't guarantee a light free dark cycle? The autos usually pre flower around week three, and pull around 6-8oz.

This is a current auto that pre flowered week three, at week 8 of flower, would I get better results from a photo with three weeks veg, and would it even be worth trying without guaranteeing perfect darkness?

If you have room and you want to try it, go ahead.

This is usually not a big problem. I have holes in my old worn tents and lower intake that let through some light. Usually not a problem if it's just the bottom part of the tent.

They need enough darkness for sleep but I personally believes the "light leak issues" is most often down to other factors.

I take pictures of my sleeping girls when lights are out. I've also made some small work during lights out (5-10min) throughout the years without any apparent issues at all.

You would get better quality with photos for sure...ive grown in my bedroom closet before with no issues I just has lights off during the night/sleeping time

Herming a plant isn't easy. I'm currently looking at doing a second reversal on a table because of some old STS. My understanding is to shift hormones requires a consistent leak, over an hour, sustained through a week or so. That's what it takes to trigger flowering auxins so I'm generalizing. I could be wrong.

You're probably right. I think you would need a big light leak or a faulty timer to create a Hermie. It's like you said it takes over an hour of light exposure to even trigger plant response from my understanding. Cheers!

Cheers for all the replies. I've heard so many stories of single standby lights causing herms and reveg, but I wouldn't think there would be enough flux coming from a standby light to influence hormonal changes.

The room only has a 5w LED in the roof (the other two have been removed years ago), which has to do a 5x6m room, so I doubt there would be significant issues, if any with that little light.

I prefer a tent with actual duct ports on the bottom vs those screen flaps. That way you can run a filter on your intake and cover the tube keeping it dark inside. You could mod your tent but it would involve some cutting of the old screen vent out
I'd love to get a quality tent. I cheaped out and got two greenfingers "1680d" (my ass) 2x4x6 tents. The screen on the lower intakes may as well be trellis it's so spaced out. Flys can near on make their way in the tent through it...But for $50 I can't complain.

Lol. Ya the cheapies are well. Cheap
There's some that are ok but I find their poles are small and bend with weight over time.
Got a gorilla and I'll never look back. Pricey but it's solid

Same here. I setup my cheap tent upside down for that reason. The Gorilla has plenty of ports to choose from, so I won't have to turn it upside down. I've got the 2x4 shorty with extension, but haven't set it up yet.

Nice ya I got the 5x5 shorty with the high CFM kit
I gotta order the CFM kit. That shit's cool. My 2x4 is to replace the one I have now that I just veg in, and I have positive pressure in my tent now. It actually makes my tent a little bigger, lol.

I wouldn't flower in it because of all the light leaks from all the pinholes and shitty zippers. But I'd be fine to flower in the Gorilla 2x4 though. Just would be a little crammed.

Ya i just have a vipar 3x3 and 2x4. 2x4 for moms. I'll use the 3x3 sometimes when I don't feel like doing a big run or in the summer when I want to use less lights and keep it cooler
