Vertical/stacked shelving grows indoor small scale?

Im working on a plan for my next grow set up.
My plan is to use either 8 or 10 foot tall shelfs depending on my apartment limits, with either 2 or 3 tiers(shelfs) per unit in a range or sqaure footage sizes for different uses. The lights used will be custom built LED lights ran superrrrrr low for the efficiency, distribution and the fact ill be able to hang them insanely close to the plants(6inchs more or less will have to test),

Vertical space wise for the 2 tier 8 foot ill need
Call it 1.5 inchs per light X2 = 3 inchs
7 inchs for pots per tier X2 = 14 inchs
Metal of support of rack call it = 4 inchs
Hang height = 6 min inch
Total = 27 inchs leaving behind 69(lucky number lol) inchs or 5.75 feet of plant height space total (34.5 inchs per tier)

I understand thats not alot of space so im going to use a training method called fluxing i seen form this guy lightspeeds post somewhere.

Im thinking Ulines wire shelfs for the clone and veg and wide span for the flower tent. 2x2 3 tier for the clones and early veg and 2x4 2 tier for flower, fluxing takes longer in veg then other training methods but with the advantage being the best for keeping the plants as short as possible with still being able to get those nice big colas form a scrog/Lst form what ive seen. I also plan on putting a scrog net right above the flux point to make it a bit easier

Im still working on exact plant count and lay out in the flower shelf because i want to put some amount of 4-6 inchs fans in some layout still havnt figured out those numbers and it would mean spliting up the scrog screen possibly

I’ll be buying a par meter so i know the exacts i have but ill be using the product calculator to lux to par calculator as estimates to have a idea theres a low chance of them being anywhere near on point. It should work out to 20-30 watts per square foot with the efficiency ill be running them at, either bridgelux or samsung strips i have a few options in my head form them right now but im gonna stop rambling now lol

i was wondering if anyone has done this and has any tips or if anyone would want to watch(Via a thread/journal of the planing process grow all the way to first harvest).

one last thing ive been a long time lurker of rollitup across all the different threads over the past 11+ years(had to edit just did the math if im remembering right) and i just wanted the say thank you i learned everything form how to all the beginner stuff to hash makingto my first grow untill now lol you guys are great

I tried it. I grow short plants in @ 40" vertical. got an 83" tent, had 2 40" shelf in there. I used HLG QB288s run at 50W so I can get them super close.

with right strain and growing from clones it it definitely possible height wise.

biggest issue that you will run into is higher humidity from having 2x as much plant matter and grow medium. also if you happen to have a strain w a lot of stretch it sucks to have to pull them out or do last minute supercropping. also if you are doing DIY lights are you going to totally seal the fixtures w lenses to make them waterproof? otherwise it's a little sketch to have a light that could shock you, inches below a tray that is catching runoff.

I'd suggest instead just either grow SOG to increase yields or do what I did and just get a 2nd tent. Had to get rid of my dresser but it's way less stress.

and yeah i plan on encapsulating them somehow not sure exactly how yet but probably a resin, i might try a sog but doing it on the shelfs you made very valid points but ive been stuck on doing this the second i have the opportunity for a few months now, as for the humidity issue i worried of that a bit but i dont mind buying 2x the de hu power

i have a idea for multiple intake/outtake ducts per shelf but i wont get in to that right now

basically i dont mind paying out my ass as long as i can get 2x the weed in half the space, ill be moving to a bit of a small apartment but still need enough of the medication to get me thru, i smoke like 5 combined stoners haha.
Other then the humidity did you have any other problems when you grew on the shelfs? I could see ease of reach to the plants being a issue, how did that go?

It's upside down and drying now, we'll find out in a week or so. That particular plant foxtailed like crazy as I lost control of the temperature without having an AC plumbed in yet. The whole build gives me 4 2x2 spots, ~40" tall, in a 2x5 footprint.

I gave up on it halfway thru like I said, and just got a 2nd tent. As long as you have access to everything it should be fine. get a good stepstool so you can reach the 2nd shelf and lights easily do you should be good.

I just remembered I also did have a different setup where I used a 4.5' tent on bottom for flower, and 3' tent on top for veg for a bit I only had a 2x2 corner of dining room at that time. Worked fine being in different tents and def made for a nice compact setup. I can dig up photos if u wanna see.

Thats what im talking about, 16Sqft of grow space in a 10Sqft space just seemed to genius for me not to attempt it, im gonna check your page when im done typing to see if you got a journal but if not keep me updated bro that looks like some fire, the foxtailing doesn’t look to bad honestly i think it makes the buds look cool sometimes even if its not in the genetics lol

My bad misunderstood you didn’t get a few runs in, and that actually sounds like a plan were the tents pre made stacked or did you do it your self?, if you have the pics easy to get then thanks but dont make it a hassle lol i know how deep they get too find
