I'm genuinely curious about how you see perlite as a crutch. I have a couple hypotheses about this but either you missed my question in the other thread or didn't want to take the OPs thread further off topic. I can understand that. Although I've grown for a bit now I don't know everything and I'm always open to learning more, thanks.
I was just messing around. I may have had a couple drinks at that point. To each their own.
Come on now. I employ perlite as crutch in my soil mix. Yet only meeting the definition by means of lightening the mix and reducing nute loading. So supporting some weight. A crutch. At a loss of organic beneficial matter decreasing actual pot volume.

Yeah I've noticed no difference either. Even in drainage so I don't even bother adding it now.

It should be washed first. Perlite dust makes a sludge after watering.
So you’re saying coco without perlite will drain just as fast as coco with perlite?
Should you ph adjust the water before rinsing?

If environment was your true concern you would be growing in 1/16-1/8 washed gravel. LMAO!The thing with perlite is it has a huge carbon footprint in it's manufacture. So do hydroton balls tho so where do we draw the line when growing indoors is a huge carbon footprint on it's own.
I've never washed perlite either. My plants love sludge.
