Can you point me to any good info on the proper way to bud wash? Also how much does budwashing effect the final product?
There are several posts about bud washing on here and elsewhere.
I use the potassium bicarbonate instead of baking soda in my first tub. Then hydrogen peroxide in the second tub. The third and/or fourth tub has just plain water.
The effects of washing the buds are nothing but wonderful. You have first the potassium bicarbonate killing off any mold you didn't notice and any un-germinated spores. So mold won't be spreading post harvest. (Still inspect everything as you know it's been there. ) Washing also removes lint, hair, dust, any bugs (and their poo), and leaves a much cleaner and nicer smoke.
When doing this use lukewarm water. Cold water can dislodge trichomes, as they become more brittle when cold. With the warm water there is no real loss of anything significant. I ran several pounds of bud through the wash tubs and poured all of my wash water through a set of bubble bags, only to find a few grams of trichomes. So don't worry about any loss of potency. The results are all positive my friend.
