I have used 18/6 previously but am on 24/7 this run. Both work fine with autos. Now whether or not there is a benefit is another story. Does it just use more power and not give you much benefit having the extra couple hours of light? I can't say. Plants do go through a natural process of using up stored energies during the dark period but does not allowing that hurt anything, I cannot say. I can say that either works so you just need to decide what you want to do an go for it.

so here's a ? for ya to ponder: one of the auto strains i grew was partly from Colorado (dude found it growing wild). so would it do better with 18/6 or 20/4 compared to strain from let's say northern Russia/Alaska where they do get almost 24 hrs of light during the summer??

Oh boy! In discussion only. I would say are you accurately replicating the soil, climate, intensity, barometric pressure and O2 levels? May as well be mars. And the reduced angle of light amongst others induce the need for more longer. LOL.

24/0 or 20/4 is fine …. Like a sweat shop . You will find plant will root bigger / structure with longer cycles upfront.

18/6 is the common way.
I run 20/4 to rest my equipment over plants.

tell me about it!!! who the hell knows right?

and the icing on the cake for that strain was that i didn't realize it was not feminized autos. so 1 of 6 was a chick. wasn't too happy about that.
