2021 Auto Comparison Grow: 10 gal vs. 20 gal

Hey guys, welcome to my comparison grow. I'm running 7 autos outdoors this year and wanted to test the effect of using a ridiculous pot size. 20 gallons seems way overkill but I thought I'd have a little fun doing a comparison, even with a small sample size.

Right now 2 of my Purple Hulk from MSNL are the exact same size at 9 days so they seem like good candidates. Fingers crossed they're the same pheno.

I'll likely transplant these guys in about a week, currently hardening them off and bringing them indoors for the 48F night temps.

Let's see if there's a difference!

Yea it should be water only, the medium is a mix I made. Coco, compost, cow manure, EWC, fish bone meal, kelp, gypsum, azomite, basalt, etc. left under a tarp for a month.

Looking forward to seeing your results, since you appear to be using a "living soil", the pot size could really impact things. A few years back, for my own amusement I did an auto comparison where I grew some in pots and some in the ground. Net result, now I'm all about growing in the ground.

At the time I was comparing lightly augmented bagged soil in various sized pots to what I'll call 'mature soil' in well tended raised beds, so there were huge variables beyond just the amount of soil available to the plants, which is why I refer to it as a comparison and not an experiment. I also had about a dozen plants that were all different strains... LOL. Your setup is more of an actual experiment, nicely done.

Awesome, I also prefer placing them in the ground. This year I can't because I'll have to move them for a day when contractors fix our back fence.

Lol at the end of the day finding out what works best for your setup is all that matters. Sounds like a raised bed with mature soil kicked ass and you won't be going back to pots. The cool part is, even with different strains etc., you can still get a "feel" if the raised beds really made a difference. After a certain amount of time, your gut just tells you if those raised beds or pots are providing better conditions.
