i bought a 4" fan and thought it was defective because the mounting bracket screw holes appear to be unthreaded and they just wont screw on

so i go to a store and buy a hurricane fan, same problem except this one also has a hilariously short power cord

what the fuck is this, why does so much grow equipment suck ass

'Dro shops mostly sell lower end junk inline fans unless you pay $300 for a can-fan that they more than likely will have to special order which doesn't help you that day at the checkout counter.

For 4" I recommend the Vortex VTX 400.

Vortex Powerfans VTX-Series. Includes 6 ft power cord. 220 nominal CFM. For 4 inch ducts.

10 year manufacturer's warranty, because they're built to last that long. $114 @ HVACQUICK.COM

im also shocked that there arent more google results for this... how the fuck is this not a common problem
The rest of us that have already been down the shitty road you're traveling pass on the cheap fans, because we don't want to be frustrated like you are presently :) You aren't dealing with anything the rest of us haven't already dealt with. I truly can not emphasize this enough: Buy quality equipment. Cheap shit will only serve to frustrate you and waste your time.

Lol I thought I was, by ordering from a hydro store (instead of Amazon which is nothing but chinese garbage). Apparently not :-( (Also thought Hurricane was a decent brand)

Thanks for link I will keep them in mind.

Let me share a little secret with you. We'll keep this just between you and me :) 'Dro shops do not sell the best of the best. They sell what makes them the most profit. Bottom line. Only certain things should be bought from hydro shops. Or even amazon for that matter. I buy my dirt and perlite from 'dro shops. I do NOT buy equipment from those people, because they generally do not sell the best of the best.

Next time you go shopping for equipment ask the moron behind the counter what the warranty is for the piece of shit equipment they're trying to sell you. Inline fans should come with a 5 year warranty. If it's less than that it's a piece of shit just waiting to fail. Best of luck, and word to your mother homie :)

Go with cheap brushless inlines. Pricier controller. LOL. And just drill the holes out if needed to hang with a cam lock style cargo strap or two. Ain't gotta be fancy. Just meet the needs. LOL.

I had to like that post just for the MacGyver approach. Fucking dig it! Still won't buy or recommend cheap fans though. Fried plants and fires are far more costly than an extra $50 for a quality piece of equipment designed to last. The MacGyver fan will look way fucking cooler though. I'll give you that :)

My centrifugal 6" wind tunnels work very well. And under $35 each used. Brushless is the operative term. Or PWM. I would never suggest a safety hazard to any I don't know capable of addressing them.

Nothing is designed to last anymore. Engineered to fail. All on your maintenance for longevity and safety. LOL.

Peace.
