Root aphids.

Hello there,

I have a big problem and don t know how to deal with it. I have root aphids. I am using a hydroponics drip system growing in pebbles. I saw some white dots in the reservoir. At the beginning I thought it s just dust but then I saw the small beasts crawling around.

The infestation is at the beginning and I don t know how to deal with it. I already soaked the girls like 10 min each in a organic insecticide baste on 40% neem. A lot of them have died but after 10 days they are back.

Thank you. Much appreciated !

You need to reapply about every 3rd day for a while. I would also recommend root cleaner and mosquito dunks in rotation. After you haven’t seen any signs of them for a couple weeks you can back off the rotation but I would continue a weekly ipm to assure they don’t come back and can never get a foothold.

Botanigard 22 wp is another very strong organic bacterial pesticide that you can treat with beneficial nematodes as a synergistic approach also, the bacteria is carried by the nematodes for a 1-2 punch. Also very effective to knock down an infestation.
You’re welcome! Good luck!

You have to be certain you’re dealing with the correct pest.
Can you get any pictures of the critter?

Not my thread but I just happen to have a root aphid issue with pics from today. Plant looked over watered. It wasn’t and ph and ppm were all fine. Finally I pulled her out and put a scope in the roots. I’d heard of root aphids as well as broad mites (on leaves). Pretty sure these are the aphids.
I think they are oribitad mites based on the tan coloured front section.
