In most cases the lights (cfls) should be about 3 inches above the plant. That way the plant doesnt become too stretched out. The closer the light the more full bodied the plant will be. But you have a 50watt HPS? Usually you see higher HPS lights (200 watt?)
How often do you water them?
At 4 weeks, depending on what type of soil you have, the nutrients are all used up. So you might want to start feeding them at 1/4 manufacturers strength and gradually work your way up to full dose.
Have you tested PH of soil?

ya I'm gonna have to rearrange that soon. yup, 50 watt HPS :]
idk I'm not necessarily thrilled that I have a 50 watt HPS compared to everything else they have but I have a 150W and 70W as well I just need to get ballasts for... which is expensive as shit but oh well. I actually don't water them very often.. I've been very careless with these plants. sometime I'd forget the whole day and sometimes I'd water it twice a day but it was mostly twice tops. we actually had some miraclegro organic potting mix at first for a couple weeks, then got some organic compost (don't ask why) which didn't work for shit, so yesterday we went and got some FoxFarm Oceans Forest and another bag of MiracleGro and did half and half. never tested the PH, no :/

damnit
will someone who knows what they're talking about come in here and not leave ;[
I hear you! It just takes some time to get people to respond. Keep bumping it up every few days and someone with good knowledge will come around. If not then do so mad reading on this forum.

I think you will be better off with the higher watt HPS lights. The more "light" during the light hours you give it the more potent it will become.

Watering two times a day may be a bit much. With a pot that size I would water it until a bit of water starts to come out of the bottom drainage holes. Then check it 2 days later, stick your finger about 3 inches down in the soil and see if it is moist. If the soil is moist check again tomorrow and if it is bone dry then water again. Then use that time period for a watering "marker."

Too much water will stunt the plant and cause root rot. Hope you get some more advice. Ok break time! :joint:
