Hey everyone! I working on building my grow box as I write this. My box is going to be 6ftx3ftx3ft. I will be trying to grow 3-5 plants. My question is should I use a 400hps or 600hps? I know more light the better. My only concern is if I use the 600 is that going to be hard to keep cool? This is my first grow. Also is it a good idea to mount some cfl lights on the side of the box as well? Thanks

600 is super hot.. my tent is 3X3X5 and i had to get rid of my 400w hps because i couldnt get the room under 90F

The 600's are great, but there are considerations other that heat. The 600W's are much less available (at this time) and almost always more expensive, even than the 1000's.

You can check my wardrobe out. About 2'x4'x6'. My 400W requires a good amount of air movement to keep the grow area about 10 degrees above my ambient temps. I don't think I could handle a 600W.

bongsmiliei use 600w in a 3 1/2' x 3' x 6'9" cab with a cool tube and 4" rvk running 60% and 6" rvk running at 60% with scrubber + 8" clip on fan to move the air around this all keeps temps 10f-15f above ambiennt being 63f-65f.

Congrats. I'll bet those noise levels are pretty reasonable at 60% too. 600W can be done, but you need to run some serious fans like those rvk's.

and some quality speed controls, cheep ones will slow the speed but create a lot of motor humm and the slower you go the louder that gets and can be louder than the motor its self.
waisted a few £ getting that one wright.
