Searching for new moms

For this journal, I'm searching for at least three new mother plants. I gave away three of the six I had and I kept the following, which were from the best plants selected in my 2020 outdoor link:

Widow Bomb-1 (Bomb Seeds) (1 is pheno selected)
White Widow (Seedsman freebie) (I only kept one WW through flower)
Sour Kush-Mid (Sannies Shop) (Mid is pheno selected)

I'm finishing cuts from those mothers on this other journal link.

I put 30 seeds in rooting plugs to start as follows:

2 x Gorilla Bomb Fem (Bomb Seeds)
2 x Kush Bomb Fem (Bomb Seeds)
2 x Atomic Fem (Bomb Seeds)
6 x OG Sour Kush x Wedding Cake x Blue Mac Reg (Sun Grown Genetics)
6 x Z-3 Zkittlez x Wedding Cake x Blue Mac Reg (Sun Grown Genetics)
6 x Crippler x Wedding Cake x Blue Mac Reg (Sun Grown Genetics)
6 x Swiss Cheese Reg (Nirvana purchased through Seedsman)

These should be ready to go to the 4x8 to flower as soon as that tent finishes its current run in 8 to 9 weeks from now. I will take clones from these as soon as they go to flower, and I will hold on to those while I see the sexes of the regs, the overall growth characteristics and quality of the final product. Then I will choose at least three to keep, and maybe I will make room for more by giving away from the other mothers.

Here they are at 3 days after putting them in the root plugs. I prepped the root plugs by wetting with a very low dose of easy weed, humic/fulvic, and DynaGro Foliage Pro, covered the holes in the plugs loosely with dirt to block light from hitting the seeds/roots, put them on a heating mat set to 75F, covered with humidity dome, and put under 200w LED QB dimmed to give 6000 lux at the tops of the plants as measured with Lux Light Meter app on my phone.

The only reason I said that is because some members around here can be cruel if you ask them to comment via there first thoughts in their minds/"barf" on your thread. Basically peeps will not give ya the answer ya looking for. But some just like to be rude. And some will help.

Yes, I've noticed that...but I do appreciate some criticism. By no means is my stuff perfect. I learned a lot from RIU when I got started, so I figure I'll post some stuff.

Never. I'd never heard of MAC until a few months ago. I didn't grow or partake for a few years, and now that I've gotten back into it, there's so many more genetic crosses available. I just got the Sun Grown Genetics stuff because he had his untested genetics on sale a few weeks ago for $15 per 12 pack of regulars. I've not tried any of those names that are crossed in there besides OG Kush and Sour Kush. My staples back in the day were Pure Kush and Bubba Kush. I haven't been able to find anything exactly like the ones I used to grow. I've been trying to pop new beans and cycle out mothers to continuously improve.

One week since last update and 10 days post planting of seeds. The seedlings were starting to stretch like crazy. They jumped up over an inch during the dark period one night and were starting to fall over. I thought I was hitting them with enough light, but I guess not. I transplanted the stretchy seedlings into 3x3 starter pots and put them deep in the pots to get support from the soil. I amended the soil with kelp meal, neem meal, and diatomaceous earth. I added a tiny amount of DynaGro Foliage Pro and Silica to the waterings. They seem to be responding nicely. I upped the lux to 20000 over the course of the week, It seems to have stopped the stretching.

I had one casualty when moving stuff around. One of the stems snapped at about half the length. I stuck it down in the hole on the rooting plug. That was 4 days ago, and the cotyledon and bottom stem are still alive, no wilting. I'll be amazed if it comes back to life.

Those look nice, happy, n healthy. Please look into NON pasturized coconut Water! It does unbelievable benefits for young roots. After all its basically Amniotic fluid from the biggest natural seed on the planet. :eyesmoke: It works well.

One week since last update and 17 days post planting. Some of the sprouts were quickly outgrowing the 2.5"x2.5"x3" starter pots. I transplanted 12 of those today into plastic bags, and moved them under the light with my mothers. The remaining twelve stayed in their starter pots. They should be okay in the smaller pots for at least another week.

5/6 of the Swiss Cheese Reg didn't make it. 3 did not sprout. 2 sprouted, but the cotyledons' leaves fell off. 1 survived, but its growth is stunted and it has very weird shape on the first leaves. I received the seeds from Seedsman 9 months ago, and they've been stored in a sealed container with large silica pouch since then. I didn't have great germination success from their seeds when I sprouted some from the same delivery last summer as reported here LINK. It might just be because I suck, but all other varieties from other suppliers except for one other seed had 100% germ rate.

1 other seed didn't sprout. I didn't take note of which variety that was before I discarded. I'll tally everything up by the next update. All the sprouted seeds are marked with initials and numbers for tracking purposes. I will grow the remaining 24 out, and move them to the 4x8 tent when the current flowering run LINK finishes in about 7 weeks. Hopefully, I can keep them under control in veg until then.

Some of the first leaves developed brown spots last week. I'm not sure if it was burn due to foliar application of supplements, burn due to water drops on the leaves under strong light, just too strong light, nutrient deficiency or another stressor. The most recently emerging set of leaves looks healthy though.

I will take clones when I put them to flower. When sex shows, I will cull out males, but I might keep one if it looks really special. Then, I will finish flower and select up to three females to add to the mother collection. Of note, I was rubbing stems to see if any aromas were present, and all the sprouts from Sun Grown Genetics already smell super dank. Sun Grown's seeds were the first to sprout, and fastest to grow so far. I'm excited to see how they finish out.

No. I might check it out. One of my good buddies is strict organic grower, using all kinds of natural supplemental stuff. I'll have to ask him if he's done anything with that. I might put that on my grocery list and check it out.

3 days since last update, 20 days post planting. I previously transplanted the largest half of the seedlings. The other half have remained in their original seedling pots. The transplanted seedlings are starting into vigorous veg growth. They were not particularly root bound when I transplanted, so I don't think the reason they have advanced so far beyond the non-transplants is because of being transplanted. I think it must be the genetics, but I could just be imagining that. A couple in the smaller pots have grown fast in the last few days.

The messed up leaves you see are from something wrong that happened in the last update.

The broken stem seedling that I posted about HERE is still alive and growing a set of leaves. I'm amazed. I just stuck the broken stem down into the root plug. It didn't do anything for at least a week, but then it started to push out a set of leaves. It's the smallest little runt in the picture.

This is 24 days post planting. The first half that were transplanted have really started to veg hard. I transplanted the second half today. A few of them have started to take off. When they get tall enough, I will top them to the fourth node, transplant them to the flowering tent, and root the cuttings. Based on what I see in flower, I will save at least three of the cuttings to make new moms. Some are much slower to catch on, and surprise surprise, the broken one had healthy roots showing. It's still the smallest, but I think it will take off soon if it's like its siblings.

This is day 28 post planting. The first sprouts to be transplanted were starting to grow like crazy. I topped them back to the 3rd or 4th node and made clones from the tops. I took care to mark all clones for tracking. The second group of sprouts transplanted 4 days ago is adjusting well.

Notable things about these, now that I've had a few weeks to observe their behaviors:

Gorilla Bomb Fem (Bomb Seeds) - Two different phenos. One has very tight internodal spacing and side growth. Other is much more stretchy. Both growing vigorously.
Kush Bomb Fem (Bomb Seeds) - Very nice earthy/skunky aroma. Growing vigorously.
Atomic Fem (Bomb Seeds) - Not much aroma yet. Growing vigorously.
OG Sour Kush x Wedding Cake x Blue Mac Reg (Sun Grown Genetics) - This has the strongest aroma of all in this run skunk/earth/spice. Strongest grower of all in this run.
Z-3 Zkittlez x Wedding Cake x Blue Mac Reg (Sun Grown Genetics) - A lot of variations in growth structure on this one. Aroma is a little weird. It has something, but I can't exactly describe it...it almost smells a little bit like when you smell the fizz off the top of a can of Sprite or 7-Up. Growing vigorously.
Crippler x Wedding Cake x Blue Mac Reg (Sun Grown Genetics) - All of these are finicky in growth. Sensitive to nutes/environment/light idk. They are in the same environment/lights/soil/nutes as all the others, but they always exhibit signs of stress. They are slow to recover. Slight aroma, but not much.
Swiss Cheese Reg (Nirvana purchased through Seedsman) - The lone survivor of these sprouts is exhibiting healthy growth, but it grows slow and low. This is how cheese behaved when I grew it before. It doesn't have any aroma yet. I really hope this one develops the same kind of aroma like the ones I grew before. Cheese was one of my favorites.

This is kind of interesting. As the veg plants get tall enough, I've been taking the tops for clones. Swiss Cheese #1, the only survivor, has three growing shoots at each node. I've heard of people having it, but it's the first time I've ever seen it.
