BLUE TARP I wonder if?

okay i have a thought... in reading the best light for the flower room is a mix of HPS and MH... for both spectrums. so my question is if i were to place a blue tarp on the floor would the beams of the HPS light that bounces off the tarp lose some of the red spectrum and be higher in the blue spectrum bouncing back up at the plants so in theory providing the
necessary spectrum for optimal growth.

am i just thinking to hard?

don't think that would work as the hps doesn't really emit much blue so there wouldn't be much to bounce, would blue not absorb it anyway?

hmmmmm... so you think the red would just absorb into the tarp? tarps when they brand new reflect light just like a mirrior or enough to burn your rentinas.

i don't really know i just thought that blue things absorb blue and bounce everything else, could be completely wrong though lol

Color is the reflection of a certain light color. Green plants reflect [not absorb] green light, giving them a green appearance. Instead of a blue tarp, what if you used blue and red shiny wrapping paper to reflect blue and red?

chlorophyl is why plants are green...lol
Chlorophyll reflects green light. :wall: Google it. "Visual perception of color"... "why are plants green"... "reflection of light color"..."why is my IQ 34?". Just a few key phrases to try.

PS. I used to tutor high school students in science to pay my way through college, fuck-wad.

anyway... i had the same question come to mind last time i was standing in lowes and looking at tarps for my flower room floor. I would prefer to find a silver one the right size, but could only find a blue one big enough. Since the bulbs are going to be giving plenty of red light... its not a bad theory, that the blue tarp may help to reflect some of the less produced blue light - to the plants advantage. You are not thinking too hard :D you are just thinking. That's good. :D I'd deffinitely go with the blue tarp over a brown tarp.

and yes, a thing is blue because it absorbs almost all colors except the color blue. a thing is green because it reflects (and doesn't absorb) the color green. white things reflect all light. black things absorb all the light spectrum.

why do extremely white people get sunburnt so bad if they reflect light so well? lol

woops looks like i was wrong, what everyone was saying does ring a bell though. wouldn't it be best to just use white if it reflects everything

ya, but a white floor won't stay white very long. a mirrored disco floor would be lovely in a grow room though :D

but, ya, i'd grab white over blue tarp.

Yes flat white is the best reflective surface for grow rooms. Honestly, as cheap as a roll of black/white poly is it really is worth it to make the floor white, then you can actually SEE when it needs to be cleaned, which is good if you ever have an insect problem.
