Mephisto Canna Cheese 1:1 - Growing again after 10 years

Hey all,

Well it’s been 10 years since I posted on this site with my broke ass (I was literally broke) closet grows from my good ole college days. A molten hot metal halide in an aero garden with 2 roommates. Good times. Well fast forward and I gots the moneys now and I want to grow again. Here’s the new an improved set-up.

And yes I’m also growing lettuce around it cause I’m old now and have to eat salad to not get fat.

ChilLed 165W LED 4ft Bar
4” A/C Infintiy Exhaust Fan with Temp/Humidity Controller

Vivosun 2X4 Grow Tent
Hurricane 6” clip fan

The two girls are 1 week in the soil with two days of paper towel germination beforehand. Got a little leggy of the bat so I turned the light up a bit and lowered it. Was being caution with the light at first.

Day 12 and the two girls are doing well. Had some humidity concerns due to this historic cold in the south but a humidifier and light intensity increase put both back on track. Love the different phenos as one girl is stretchier and the other is shorter and thicc (my fav).

Slight smell but nothing that needs the carbon filter hooked up yet. Have not watered in almost 6 days and fighting the urge to overwater every day. Going to do a round of recharge with next water.

This is a no nute grow. Just living soil and Recharge. I may top dress with some worm castings at flower, will see.

Day 22 and I feel I may have an issue, trying to resolve. Growth has been good but new growth is starting to curl. I though it may be overwatering but I just got a moisture meter and it was low (1-3 out of ten) so I actually watered again and worried I just signed a death sentence if it was overwatering haha also have some yellowing on the leaves, see pics. Any advice? Keep in mind this is a living soil grow so I am not adding any nutrients except Recharge. Is it watering or lighting?

Crisis averted. Needed a good soak, some recharge, and raised the light a bit. Day 24 and we have preflowers. LST started two days ago and the canopy is starting to take some shape.

Smell kicked in so the carbon filter is in place now. Also, check out my lettuce, talk about easy!

Ya man different varieties of lettuce and your exactly right, dill I will transplant outdoors when spring hits in full. I’m into horticulture in general (see my old cucumber setup below) so squeezing whatever I can in here.

You have to REALLY like cukes to grow that many haha I was on a pickling kick and hydroponics is and will always be fascinating to me. This was my morning harvest every morning haha

Have you tried cannabis with that setup?

And on another note, do you like eating fish? You seem to have the right skills and sensibilities for aquaponics.

Me too, we just use dirt here.... but we're lucky to have some decent native soil and just enough sunlight in our neighborhood to pull it off.

I love cukes and so do my kids. Bringing my youngest and letting her find one in the garden, seeing the excitement on her face.. ahh I'm so looking forward to summer. Santa got me a greenhouse this past Xmas to play with too, exciting stuff

I was so intrigued with aquaponics that I worked with a guy with a functioning company (growing basil/tilapia) for a few days to get a feel for it. I didn't end out going that route, but I have a lingering desire to basically grow autos over a big fish tank, just for the fun of it. It actually started backwards, I was growing in SIP and thought, why not make the res into a goldfish tank? It's not quite that simple, but someday I might work it out.

Day 32. No issues Watering every 3-4 days using recharge. No nutes. Living soil kicking ass! I did order some build a soil “build a flower” top dressing and some freeze dried coconut powder. Will start using both once those arrive.
