Seedling leaf discoloration

Hi there!

This is my first time growing indoors with an LED light.

I have 5 seedlings that are 10 days old that started to show some discoloration on the leaves, as well as curling down on the tips.

no nutes added yet, using lightmix as soil.

Im worried this might be caused by ph although I use ph 6/7 water.



What do you think? Should I be worried about something or is this normal?

Hey, I would just watch. It is early on and you really only have 1 set of true leaves. Once the roots take off I'm betting you'll be fine ..

That's a nice looking light for sure. It may be showing a little light stress, with the plant so little...if it pulls 200 from the wall, dialed down you are at around 150-160 watts at 16in...but it isn't praying yet so, but you'll wanna keep an eye on that as it grows and your intensity is dialed up.

Thanks! I’ve been wondering about light stress as this is my first time using LED.

In the meantime I decided to raise the light a couple more inches and see how they react. It might be a little light stress as you mentioned.

Its is certainly a learning curve using leds. The recommended ppfd for a young plant is 150-200. So there is a strong possibility it could be light stress as mentioned before. Also your humidity is rather low. Between 60%-70% would be ideal.

I think that's a bit close for seedlings, I have a 65w QB . For their boards they recommend 30 for seedlings, 24 after 2 weeks, gradually going to 18, then 12-18 for flowering. I didn't find any info on Lumatek site about hanging distances, nice looking light by the way.
I occasionally noticed weird leaf coloration's since I've switched from cfl to led for vegging.

Thanks Hash Hound! I’m gonna move the lights up a little more. Do you think I should raise it or lower the power?

I’ll try to raise the humidity a bit.

I am also experimenting with bottom feeding.The pots are in a tray and I have a water deposit that is connected to the tray and the water level is regulated by a aquavalve.

The bottom of the pots have a few inches of perlite. The pots are 60% perlite, 40% soil.

What do you guys think about this setup? It’s my first time doing this type of irrigation too!

For the lux? This is a general guide:

• Clones and seedlings: 5,000–7,000 lux
• Vegetative growth: 15,000–50,000 lux
• Flowering: 45,000–65,000 lux

So at 26,000 lux you are driving it pretty hard for a seedling.

Yeah looks like I might be causing them light stress, gonna lower the power and see how they react.

Just an update, lowered the dimmer to 50% and it’s now around 20k lux

This is day 14, started from seed.

24c is a little low for leds. Try bumping it up. Going from 75f to 82 and up helped me tremendously when I was adjusting to leds from hps.
Leds don't put out lots of infrared radiation like the hps and so the leaf temp is lower.

Looking good mate, much better after you reduced the lights.
