Nope, all over head now.
36 of them. All QB288's.
One wall has all 3500K RSpec's.
One wall has 50/50 split of 3500K RSpec and 4000K.
3rd wall has even distribution of 3500K RSpec, 4000K and 3000K.

I've been without my Apogee light meter for about 2 months. I finally sent it back for repair and just got it back today. The support at Apogee is A+.
As I went around the room taking measurements, I was way too high in many spots. I've been running each board at 60 watts. In these winter months, I have to find the right balance between light intensity, ambient temps (both on and off), leaf temps, RH% and air exchange. My room is in the mid 80's but it's exhausting to my basement and pulling in fresh air from my basement which is currently at 51F.
At any rate, several of the tallest plants were registering well into the 900's. I dialed back a few boards from 60 watts to 50 watts and that brought me down to the low 700's. I increased to 55 watts and that got me in the high 700's/low 800's. I'm going to do a rearrangement by height and then fine tune. I want no less than 750 and I'm targeting 750 to 800. If areas are a little above 800, that's fine, but I'm going to aim for 800 as the top.
My next post is going to focus on my experience and progress with DIY Nutes. I have a lot to share on this.

Cruising right along. Still have a long way to go and things are looking great. I'm in my 3rd week of feeding with DIY nutes. Still doing a lot of experimenting but things are going great...no complaints and no problems. As promised, info on my feed still coming...soon.

Cruising right along. For the 1st time ever for me, a carbon filter is not able to control the odor 100% effectively. I know my room is tight, so I can rule out leaks. My next thought was perhaps the high humidity renders the carbon less effective. This may be the case, I don't know yet. What I do know is that when I go into the room for as little as 2 minutes, I come out smelling bad. And I mean really bad.
I'm going to start off this post with some pics and then follow it up with the long overdue details on my new feeding regiment.
Let's start with some random room shots:

Lets talk about nutes, finally.
As I understand it, here is the conventional thinking:
We have a Part A and a Part B. This list could be added to and certain items could be substituted...but basically:
Part A consists of:
Chelated Iron
Calcium Nitrate
Potassium Nitrate
Part B consists of:
Copper Sulfate
Magnesium Sulfate
Manganese Sulfate
Monopotassium Phosphate
Sodium Borate Decahydrate
Sodium Molybdate
Zinc Sulfate
I experimented with this approach for about a week and quickly decided it was not for me. I took a look at every ingredient and got familiar with it's chemical makeup, how it's used, and why.
The following elements are the ones that I want to have full control over:
Nitrogen
Calcium
Potassium
Magnesium
Phosphorus
All of the others don't really fluctuate. Perhaps when feeding a seedling they need less, but otherwise their amounts remain fixed. So lets start there:
Here was my 1st attempt at a Part B Micro:
What I learned was that different chemicals dissolve in water at drastically different amount. This was simply way too concentrated.
After experimenting with each ingredient on it's own to determine a reasonable solubility, I did another test. Everything dissolved - Success!
And then a few hours later, total failure. My mix went from a crystal clear with a tint of blue from the copper to a sludgy mess that was brown.
I spent an entire evening mixing each of these 5 ingredients with one another until I found the culprit. And the culprit was Sodium Borate. I only need 0.5 PPM's of Boron, geez. So after figuring out how much of each ingredient I can easily dissolve, I arrived at the following Part B and Part C:

You'll notice that Zinc Sulfate is missing here - I'll explain why soon.
Sodium Borate was removed because of the chemical reaction that occurred. I put him in his own bottle:

All I can say about that smell is “welcome to the dog side!” Once I started growing chems and decided it was my favorite, it was in short order I started messing around with ozone. Did you know that ozone “recharges” carbon filters? Also you can electrically neutralize ozone? Most people don’t want to mess with it but it’s the highest order of smell mitigation!

Day 55 of 12/12
A few problems to report:
Appalachian Super Skunk #1 got a little too dry overnight and one of her side branches snapped. Shortly after tending to her, the other one snapped due to the imbalance. They were both very heavy and dense branches - oh well, it happens.
It's looking like the App Super Skunks will finish 1st, followed by Goji OG and finally Chem. I'll estimate the Skunks need 2 more weeks, 3 more weeks for the Goji's and 4 more weeks for the Chem's.
Having a bit of a nutrient issue. 2 of them are showing severe magnesium deficiencies on the lower leaves and several others are starting to show the same signs. I don't think they are actually Mag def. but rather suffering from a lockout due to too much Potassium - I have been getting very aggressive. I had 18 gallons left in my rez and decided to add 37 gallons of RO and readjust everything. I kept most everything the same but I backed way off of the K. Will monitor, take notes, and continue adjusting. But all in all, I'm doing pretty well with my 1st ever DIY nutes and I'm having hella fun!

I wasn't going to post again until Wednesday but since the pics last night were pretty weak (again), thought I would post some better pics and also talk about what Chapter 10 is going to look like!
1st up - some closeups. Each picture is named what it is, but the numbers do not line up to the actual plant numbers - just picture number.

They didn't really want to cola up but after I explained what their mission is, they seemed to take it to heart

I only got 4 females out of 11 but the 4 I have are pretty nice. One of them is probably a NO regardless how she reviews but the other 3 are all rock stars. I'll feel really lucky if my reviewers give one of them a 5 star rating. These were last minute replacements for something I was promised but did not receive. Good news though, I just got word that my friend is going to come through for me - more on this later.
'91 Chem's
And finally, on to the primary objective for Chapter 9. To find 1, or perhaps 2, stellar Chem's that I will be using as a starting point for my breeding projects. The 10 I have are all similar in certain areas but very different in others. Here are 3 examples, in no particular order:

Many of these cola's are so large I really need a frame of reference. The 1st App Super Skunk, for example, has a top nearly the size of a college football. I'll be sure to add some 12 oz cans or 2 liter bottles next to these as we near the end.
Edit: I don't actually have a college football and I might be exaggerating a bit...we'll use a 2 liter bottle for reference.
