So far they look about even nug wise as far as my eye can tell.

Temps under LEDs are ~80F peaking at 82-83. Under the DE HPS its getting 83ish peaking at 86F cause of the scorching hot DE bulbs. RH Im keeping 55% now til the end.

Feeding ~2.5EC with the 2 part MC. I see some Calcium deficiencies under the LEDs. Going to fix that by adding a little more Calcium Nitrate than recommended by MC. Their 2 part ratios always cause me problems with this strain even under DE

So far so good for the LEDs. Same nug size as the DE but less power. My only concern now is how well or how worse the LED lights are going to penetrate compared to the DE.

ended up going all MJ650s this run. going to harvest in a few weeks.

looks solid but far from a perfect run. it does the job and penetrates well through the canopy.

So what was the result from the experiment between different lighting?
from what i can remember.

- leds wanted longer to finish. nug's still had white pistils to grow into. but i was on a schedule so i took them down together.
- led product came out sparklier than de hps
- de hps yielded a bit better. but to be fair the temps and rh were targetted for the de hps since i had 8 of them vs 2 leds. even tho i did try to keep it hotter than usual for the leds.
- nug sizes were about the same give or take.

im still dialing in leds for flower. but ill be on par with my de hps runs yield wise. might be alittle bit better despite all the problems i had.

theyre good lights. ill recommend them for sure. they dish out some serious firepower.

my only problem is they seem to want to go longer under the leds compared to my previous de hps runs....same strain. could be my fault though. theres environment and nutrient regimen tweaks needed. i mess around with temps and nutes alot in general.

I just swapped out 1/2 of the 1000w gavita DE’s in my room with the Gavita 1930e LED’s.
It is sort of a problem when trying to do a “side-by-side” between double endeds and Led’s in the same room isn’t it?

Got the canopy temp to around 84 under the LED’s and around 87 under the DE’s. If the LED’s come anywhere close in yield, i’ll swap out the other half but will probably need a much larger DEHU because the AC’s wont need to work as much. Humidity already went up by just swapping out the 8 de’s with the led’s :-(

ya its tough. i had to upgrade my veg after transitioning to leds from a 70 pint to 95

also kept my dehumi on during lights on in flower after leds transition. used to turn it off with a timer during lights on cause splits were handling it themselves when DEs were still in the rm. they cant anymore. dehumi is on 24/7 in flower

its a huge problem. 84 is fine for the leds, 87 is ~10 degrees to hot for hps. so being that the leds have ideal conditions and hps have shit conditions, yields will probably be similar. running less ac and more dehumidifiers (which also put out a lot of heat) likely wont save u as much as u r thinking.

Can def be a huge problem. Not as much in my setup. I built my new shop with 12’ ceilings. So the IR heat from the DE’s aren’t as bad at canopy with the lights being up a little further.
The AC’s are set to 84F. I had the AC’s set to 81 before the change. I’m in a sealed setup with co2. A couple degrees warmer under the DE’s isn’t gonna be a big thing.

And also in my setup, i already know what the strains i grow yield under the DE’s in that room, so an actual side-by- side experiment isn’t really necessary for me to do.

Shit man. I been rockin 82-84 for yrs in my rooms with co2. I’m not thinking 87 will be that bad lol. We’ll see though. I don’t know anybody irl rockin LED’s. Somebody’s gotta be the guinea pig.
I always like being around 80 for regularly vented bloom rooms.

I do pretty good, as does everyone i’ve hooked up in the past and who still grow :-)

ever try running lower temps?

Yeah. Pretty much have tried and experienced almost everything growing for the last almost 30 yrs lol.
From my experience, lower temps equals smaller nugs, more color but smaller yields. The opposite of that, too hot equals boo-boo, so I know where you’re coming from trust me.
Like I said, i like 80ish with a regular vented room. Little warmer with co2.

Interesting. Im quite happy with my nug size running at ~ 71-77 canopy temp. I seem to get signs of heat stress and fox tailing if i go hotter. Im running 1100W DE HPS in a 5x5 tent though.
