ok well in the process of rebuilding a new grow area which is going to be in a shed in my backyard but i need some help wire i have a electrical box to wire from it is on a 20 amp break grow lights and accessories the only thing on this breaker but i have to do the wire from outside to the shed and do want to do it as close to code as possible so i wil be putting the wire in pvc and burrying it but i want to know what type of wire to use i was looking at 12-2 rommnex but that made for indoors i believe but so i was wondering if i should use the indoor rommnex or is there a outdoor wire that will support the amperage and wattage draw

srry made it so long any and all help is greatly apprciated

You can get direct burial cable.

And as close to code as possible?

Make it better then code. Find out the local codes for underground wiring.

well your right i want it better than code i was looking at direct burial cable but didnt find any the right gauge or only had 2 wires and not 3 any sugguestions on where to get the cable

im from auz so might be a bit differnt than ur codes but u have to go atleast 60cm below ground and use orange conduite you cant use the white stuff its not strong enough and i would use a 4mm twin and earth cable atleast. or u can get armourd cable more expensive but dont need conduite not to sure bout the rules on that but heard u dont have to burry so deep. also instead of going under ground u could attach it from roof to roof aslong as its half a meter out of arms reach.

Don't go to Lowes or Home Cheapo. They aren't gong to carry it. Go to an industrial electrical supply. I've seen 480/277 @ 300 amp cable. (though more like bar stock the cable :) ) Hit the yellow pages.

what does 480-277 mean is that the voltage or something? cause if so thats 3 phase and i wouldnt go with 3 phase if its not the voltage looks like low voltage wire. or over kill. id stick with 4mm twin and earth

All I said was that I saw direct burial cable for trip phase 480/277. ie: it is available. ( not that he should install it. )

o lol yer enless hes got a 3 phase breaker he dont want it its realy expensive aswell and if he did use it for just a normal 240 volt cable then that would prob be against the code. but yer just go to a electrical supplyer and say iv gotta run so and so distance for a 20 amp breaker and they should either point u to a 4mm twin and earth or 6mm twin and earth depending on the distance for the voltage drop. would do the calculation for u now but my brains not working.

it ok thx though yea i only need like 20 feet it will be the smaller voltage forget its 110 or 125 but yea i think i found a good local shop will call tommorow they should be able to tell me what cable i need

Voltage rating on wire is based on the insulation dielectric strength. Noting to do with the copper. Most wire is rated at 600V.
Low voltage is considered anything below 50V
