My out door regular tree not weed is about .75" in diameter and has a pretty big gash in the bark from the support I was stalking it with to support it... What can I put on the wound?

Truth is you would be better off leaving it alone to cure itself. Years ago tree pruners used a pine-tar but it has been found that it is not needed. You did not say what type of tree it is.

I do not have any documents close by to refer you to but I did own and operate a complete lawn and garden service for 28 years. I have seen many trees that had the support ring burn marks on them. It would have been nice to see a picture of the damage.
