Can you judge a book by its cover?

Do the super photogenic, high bag-appeal strains pack a punch that matches the way they look?

(Does frostiness reliably correlate with potency?)

Once you start growing "new school" strains, do you lose the desire to grow older genetics that never look as impressive as newer genetics?

What's your experience? :)

It can and cant potent strains are mostly resinous then again plenty of weaker stuff can be frosty too just depends on genetics +environment etc only way to find out is to try it id say

I like some new ones most of the older ones i prefer tho tbh still to this day its personal preference ig

No. Hemp can be frosty as fuck. I've grown plenty of shit weed that was beautiful. I've smoked herbs of legend that looked like shit. Thc might be made in the resin glands, but resin amount is a separate factor to potency. I've even grown known good clones from friends and messed them up, and they still came out better than stuff that was frosty and beautiful. The proof is in the pudding.

That's pretty interesting, and kind of what I suspected... but some strains look sooooo amazing and I'm just like, wow if potency correlates with bag appeal, then I really need to try growing more modern strains...

BUT, in the past, I'll never forget that time I got "afghan goo" (Looking back, it must have been Afgooey?) which looked like it was barely mids, but sharing one *bowl* with a friend was almost like taking an entire blunt to the dome. Ever since then, I've wondered about the relation between bag appeal : potency...

Looks don’t mean Shit, except when it hits the market :p
There are some frosty strains that also smoke good, but frost does not equal potency imo

I have two opinions informed by grows I’ve watched.

1) A friend and I have grown some very photogenic mids. The win strains aren’t necessarily pretty. The pretty strains haven’t been win.

2) it is my opinion that frostiness correlates with long trichome stems, which don’t correlate to what’s happening with the trichome heads that contain payload.

Very interesting point #2, I hadn't thought of that but that could be a big factor indeed

It's all about them fat trichome head strains not the long trichome stalk strains.

We used to get this strain called Sugar Shack back in college and it was ridiculously frosty, almost completely white but it was the least potent herb ever. You could smoke joints as thick as your thumb solo and you would be barely high.

Not 100% but i think Afghan goo is a cross of afgooey x Kandahar not just pure afgooey
