have you tested the box for light leaks ?
i have an idea .... what if you divided the box.. top to bottom ,like 12" or so width for veg .. and then divide the veg side in 2 half way up
and I haven't tested it for light leaks, but i bought some caulk for the inside and some weather strip to put around the doors. I'll post pics as soon as she's done being painted and prep'd

sounds good, i thought you are doing 1 400 or 600 watt light ? ... if your not gonna do a veg chamber i donno why you would want 2 levels/lights
with what i planned out for ya the plants would be about 12" max height veg ..
and then you could use the verticle space on the other side for budding.
do you really only want to get stuff every 3 months ? and keep starting from seed ?
well as of right now, I have tons of bag seed i wanted to experiment on until I gained enough knowledge, balls, and money to get a lot of seeds from a seed company. Just doesn't seem worth it to take the time and risk just to get a pack of 10. In one chamber, I want to start lots of bag seeds in CFL and once they show signs of flowering I will transfer about 6 or so females to the 400w HPS in the second chamber. I will add another 6 plants every 2 or 3 weeks to consistently have a harvest. I can get tons of bagseed. After I have done this enough times to know how to dry, cure, etc., I will purchase a large amount of high grade seeds. I am able to fit about twenty-four 2 litre bottles that I plan on using for my pots. I seen a grow like this on another site. If I divide in 3 chambers, I am probably only gonna be able to fit like 2 or 3 flower pots in the flowering chamber because I only ahve about 34 inches of width (34.25" x 14.5 to be exact).

Seem like a bad idea? Once I get high grade seeds, I do plan on getting another small cabinet for mothers and clones.

and I just looked at your journal and your grow is the shit. Would be ideal for me if I had the space. Just to grow a rack of plants at once is the shit.
thanks dude ! , so the cab is 43 h x 34.25" x 14.5 ?
you need to find some square pots, something that will fit good in your box

Yeah, I know! That's why I was gonna use the 2 liter bottles, i needed tall pots, not big bulky round ones. What size square ones do you think is ideal? I was gonna use your method with the red cups (though I found that Walmart has a pack of black holloween cups on sales like 6 or 8 for a dollars) and then transplant them to pots.I finished painting, caulking, and weather stripping my cabinet. How does it look?

cab looks good dude .. those red cups i had laying around so i used them .... they are good for about 2 weeks of growth from seed.
after you start growing from seed ... you will realize how very slow it is !
the exact size of those pots ... you would really have to figure out .. but the volume should equal 1+ gallon for each plant you are flowering (1 gal per 12" of plant height)

for the amount of plants you want .... have you considered another cabinet ?

first off , love the cabnet, but i think its a little small for what you want, the pic you posted of the tent . the tent is probly 6-8 feet tall. so your going to have to grow some small plants or a good sea of green. i threw together a cupple of pics for ya, of what i think can be done with it. if you really want some 2 ft plants you are going to have to scrap the top shelf idea.

here is idea one, what i think you are looking for, but like i said your not going to have much grow room with the light in there and the shelf, every inch adds up in a small space now if you plan on going streight to 12/12 light.. you are going to have to let the plants veg for a week or 2 till there 3-4 inches tall with some nice leaves on them before you put them to 12/12 and remember that they can dubble to tripple in size whell under 12/12. witch is where your height restrictions come in. but here is what it could possibly look like.

make sure the intake vents are at the bottom, close to the plants to maximise cold air and co2 gettign to the plants. on the other hand make sure the vents for exause are as high as you can get them in the box .. because hot air rises. i dont really know what elce to say about it. i hope the pic can save me a thousand words. if not let me know and i can break it down a little more for you.

now if your willing to loose the top shelf you can get a bigger yeild with your plants by letting them veg a little longer, with this cab, you will pribly beable to safely hit the 2 ft mark without risk of burning you plants with the lighs *remember they give off a lot of heat evin with the cool tube*
this one is as basic as it can get. and with a seprete veg chamber *ie a rubbermaid container and some cfls you can really max your yeild.
here is the bare bones

i wis i could stay and give you a little more info. but i have to jump in a shower and go out.. i spent all my time making the pics instead of explaining them.. if you have any questions or comments about the cab just ask or shoot me a pm and we can work somtign out good luck and i hope i helped a little

Well, I found the cabinet on CraigsList for about $20 and I just painted the walls exterior flat white and added some weather stripping. It's been days and I am still unsure where to build holes. When I do, I will attached these toilet flanges I got from Home depot for ducting my cool tube. Should work out nice, but just wondering where I should drill the holes.

Thanx! I came across a thread somewhere and it was grown 12/12 from seed in red and blue plastic cups. They where thick as colas about an ouce dry.

..... for the cooltube. ;-)

Yeah, I know! I got like a 30 CFM pc fan but now reconsidering if it is enough because I need to suck the heat out of the cooltube. The side where the bulb is will have cords in the way because of the ceramic socket.

Good Looking Homie! I think I may go with your second idea. I have tons of bagseed and just wanted to make it a 12/12 cabinet so the plants could stay short. I added the shelf but I am gonna use it to put my cords/ballast and stuff on it. Good idea or no? Remember, it will be in the closet with a 400w HPS cooltube. I wanted to drill a hole for intake on the left side and a exhaust hole in the bak with a PC fan attached to it. I have a PC fan already but its only 30 CFM. Probably not enough to suck heat from a 400, huh? I'm totally clueless! I will have the cabinet in a closet and the left side will be cloests to the wall. Not against the wall because I need a nice bit of air flow. and thanx for your help!

yeah ur gunna want a higher cfm fan.

is that cab on wheels? cause this would help for sliding it into the corner of the closet and back out.

paint looks great. i would keep the ballasts and things on top of the cab. ur gunna want as much space as possible to grow. and why not veg them for a couple weeks then flower? ur gunna want to maximize your space and you say you want to learn how to grow correctly and work out kinks till you buy seeds. well then you should start out correctly. veg for a couple weeks until your plants are 6-8" tall then flower and they will be 18" or so when done. i'll get you a link to my grow with a 400w hps and cooltube with 13 plants.

Dude, I appreciate all your help! In between posting and reading threads, it takes forever for me to reply to some of my existing. I will definitely take your advise and grow correctly first. Can you check out my other thread and perhaps give me you take on this fan?

my bags were 1/2 gallon. i would recommend staying away from grow bags that small. they get kinda tippy and the water runs right down the sides without having time to soak in. but they were plenty big and the plants were NOT root bound. i'd get some 6-8" round 4-6" tall pots or 5x5 or 6x6 square ones if you can find them.

Thats what I was thinking. Imma stick to the 5x5. I'm able to get maybe 10 of those in my cab.
