Week 6 of Flower - Leaves Yellowing / Spotting / Browning

Everything seemed to be going alright with my Wonka Bars bagseed grow. That is, until I upgraded from a blurple light to a Mars Hydro TSW 2000 last Thursday (12-3-2020). At first, I thought the brighter light was simply showing me preexisting leaf problems I wasn't aware of. Then, I noticed the discolorations seemed to be getting worse. I thought the culprit was light burn, especially since I had the Mars light set to 100% brightness at 12 in / 30.48 cm initially. I soon dialed it back. A few days went by, and the issue progressed even further. I cranked it down even more yet. But, now I've turned the Mars light down so much, I am starting to wonder if it's something else. I hope I am simply witnessing the "chlorophyll dump" that happens a few weeks before harvest. But, I fear something worse is going on. For my strain, the flower time is supposed to take 2-4 more weeks.

Someone I know suggested I might need to increase my nutrients now that I have a more powerful light. But, I am afraid I might over-do it.

I greatly appreciate any advice you guys might be able to provide. This is my first Photoperiod plant.

Soil: Organic PROMIX, 1/3 perlite to 2/3 soil ratio

Feeding Regimen

I give about .4 gal / 1.5L every 2 days. Any less often, it wilts. Any extra water, it droops. Hopefully my roots are OK.

I start with this:

6 Teaspoons FoxFarm Big Bloom
1/5 Teaspoon Molasses
pH adjust to 6.0-6.5

Then I alternate to:

2-3 Teaspoons FoxFarm Tiger Bloom
pH adjust to 6.0-6.5

Personally I wouldn’t even worry, let her fade out and enjoy the smoke!

I wouldn’t add any more feed now though, then next run up your feed or amend the soil with some neem and kelp.

If that's all it was, I'd be very relieved. I grew Auto-flowering plants prior to this. I think I might have been harvesting the Autos too early. The reason I say that, is because I have never had a plant really "yellow out" like this. But, at this stage in Flower, it might be normal. Thanks for your suggestion.

I’m no expert but on my first grow even my sugar leaves turned yellow and the bud is very good. Again take that with a grain of salt. I am very new at this.

Ah, okay. I guess it seems so counter-intuitive to me. I think, "Green leaves = healthy plant. Yellow leaves = sick plant."

Your problem is light penetration. It's normal to lose lower fan leaves lacking light penetration. Don't worry about it. Your grow looks good. I'd up my light intensity if you can and you look like you have at least 4-6 weeks prior to chop. Congrats on looking good so far.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I wasn't expecting to find encouragement with this Thread. I definitely have a lot of headroom on the intensity dial. If you think it's safe, I'll start gradually upping the juice.

Was that purpling on the stems and petioles always there? I noticed on mine the tops were purple but the bottoms of the stems that dont get hit with light are green. I started to conclude that it was actually a form of light stress which was giving it a sun burn. Just wondering, because i noticed you said that you just switched lights recently and when i did that with my ts1000 i think the new stronger intensity light stressed it the hell out.

Oh and with the higher intensity, you will need to give it more nutrients. I know it feels weird, but slowly upping it and seeing what might be the upper or lower limit of nutrients will help with the next grow.

I think what you're talking about is the result of performing Kyle Kushman's Chiropractic Technique prior to switching my lights to 12 / 12. If you haven't seen this video yet, I highly recommend it. This guy is the Master Breeder responsible for the Strain Strawberry Cough:

I had to stay really late at work tonight. When I got home, the plant was critically under-watered (it happens so quickly now). Long story short, the entire plant looks like Hell now and has so many awful looking leaves. I feel like I just ruined my whole grow.

The plant is perking back up somewhat, at least:



I think my buds shrank. Is that possible? Maybe I'm paranoid.

It makes me nervous. I am already using 3 Teaspoons of FoxFarms Tiger Bloom per Gallon. I don't want to push my luck.

Ill check the video out. With a huge water loss its pretty possible that they "shrunk" a little, but when you give them more water again they should sprout back to life. Eh, she looks a little droopy, but give it a nice drink a wait twenty four hours.

I really want to post some pictures of my little ones growing right now. Im training them to literally circle around my grow bags almost like a vine in a way. Its pretty cool looking.

Their Big Bloom fertilizer is organic and contains Guano. That one you can be a little more liberal with, and could be so bold as to use Tablespoons. Tiger Bloom, however, is a very strong fertilizer. For heavy feedings, even the back of the bottle suggests limiting it to four Teaspoons.

Is there any way possible that your meter could be off? Serious question.

I would flush just in case then if you dont have EC meter. restart with regular nutes, in my experience as long as nutrients are given immediately after, flushes improve growth if there is any imbalance. Haha if only it were that simple! we all water with PH in correct range, but it can drift DRASTICALLY in the media, especially if there not enough runoff or the medium dries out. I water in same PH range as you and ive had plants hit 8PH in media; they recovered nicely after flush and feed.

Decent little plant there though, just hope the genetics pan out.

That video is pretty long, but I found him fascinating to watch. Initially, I was pretty nervous about intentionally "injuring" the plant. But, that was done a long time ago, and did not appear to have negative effects.

I should give it some recovery time like you suggested. I think I need to remind myself cannabis is an Annual. I am getting close to the finish line, so I don't believe I should expect pristine leaves by any means.

I wish I could see that too. I am trying to envision what that might look like. It sounds like there is more involved with what you are doing than simply low-stress training to flatten out your canopy. I did achieve the "candelabra" shape with my grow. Some say that is ideal. But, I don't know if that's what you're going for.

Yeah this is one thing that freaked me out while it was flowering and getting close to the end.
