LED grows and foxtailing buds.. common trait in all LED grows?

Kingbrite 240w turned down in a 36x20" tent so definitely won't have a lack of light. What watt per sq ft did you run? I don't mind if there's a little crowning but the huge foxtail buds suck. Running truffle pig (gelato 41 x mai tai) so shouldn't be genetics guess we'll see.

I'm not about to give my girls a rainy shower lol , but I think the cloudy days with less
sun in sept/oct play a part.. which brings me to the theory that giving them less light
late in flower may be a good thing when it comes to a clean finish.

Ive always been a bit confused about guys trying to mimic the outdoors. All my friends grow outdoors and there pot fucking sucks, it’s almost always airy as hell. I’ve got a friend who trimmed two pounds a couple months ago and he’s already buying from me again lol. So why would we want to mimic that?

I ran this at full current in like a triangle foot print. 4x8 + 4x4 centered to the 4x8. led wattage was 600x2 and a 750 watt cob array. Math says 40.625 watts psf I think. Im thinking hot spots took a toll on that run. Yield was great bag appeal was weak compared to HPS. Probably my fault. Im trying super hard to love LED but just cant yet. Ive been ridding the "shit show" grow log train for a minute to see. That slut has some really nice looking flower coming along and his lights might be what I'm looking for.

Lol I just found his journal and he does have some nice led buds. I'm nervous to go all led for the same reason so figured I'd drop 150 to try it out myself since none of my friends will lol. Greengenes on youtube doesn't get too foxtaily buds either so going to try to work out any kinks before upgrading. I'm sure there's a sweet spot between heat, light intensity, ect

I wouldn't blame airy buds on nature. That sounds like a cop out.

I wouldn't even try outdoors. I worry about bugs and the weather beating on the plant.
I started indoor, and I'm just going to try to make it better as I go along.

Sorry I just seen this.. I haven't measured, I only dim it down about 20%.
I may leave it at 100% this run, but I will raise it to 24" from 18" around week 7 of flower.

We're too far north to grow the dense outdoor nugs unless you have a real good strain early finisher. I'm in Maine and have to run my outs into Nov. Even then they aren't as dense as indoor. Next summer I'll be ready with some outdoor greenhouses.

I think it has to do with the fact that most LED’s are densely packed diodes running high wattages and being hung much too close to the canopy. A QB 288 running ~150w needs a significant distance from canopy as it’s close to 0.5w/diode and spread over a relatively small area. Running strips or more boards for a higher diode count running softer ~0.3w/diode will allow much closer distance from canopy, more uniform coverage, and reduce the chance of foxtailing due to light stress.

I’m in SoCal and the outdoor comes out pretty nice, big dense buds. The pests are the worst part unless you have a greenhouse. I will always prefer the controlled environment of indoor unless I can afford a climate controlled greenhouse and the space for it some day.

This plant fox tailed a bit but i attribute it to heat and extended flowering time (possibly due to too much coconut water)

And back to OP’s original question, I’ve been having a problem with foxtails on my last few grows myself. I usually keep a steady 82 degrees, should I be dropping that in the last few weeks ?

I love that pic and cant resist posting it often AF. I got asked that quedtion a few times. The color does not carry over into drying and cure. Its still a sexy bud, with a longer, elongated shape, sugary with decent density but the colors are ordinary. In this lot of Swami 'Cherry Bomb' beans every female was a pink /red beauty. Also a real nice electrified, cerebral chill factor to the buzz. If i come across a pic of a finished bud ill post it up.

Heres a pic of IHG platinum buffalo. Im in a 2x4 i use an 8 cob v29/cxb3590 diy rig, at full blast it draws 625w on kilawatt.

I agree, running LEDs and had a grow foxtail pretty bad, but my lights were 10 or 12" from the canopy + the those were cobs that put out some heat. Maybe a combination of light and heat intensity. Next grow I raised up them a lot higher, add active cooling and didn't have the same issue. I've also run different LEDs that run cooler and instead of foxtailing I had major bleaching when too close.

What a silly thing to say, been out door in maine 40 yrs my outs blow away any at the shops at half the tag.I was done late sept this yr?
