Im fairly new to growing but... give your plants the best soil (organic if possible like FoxFarm OceanForest) and use organic nutrients if possible. As far as light you want to give them 18 hours of light and 6 of darkness "18/6" and when u go into flowering switch the lights to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of night "12/12"

Ok in answer to the original question, U can veg ur plant as long as u keep ur lights on at least 16 hours a days and give them 8 hours of darkness with growing nuts.
Growing nuts are most likely going to say grow right on the bottle and are going to be rich in nitrate/nitrites. The first number in the equasion which promotes growth and ur going to want ur potassium and calcium at the minimal.
Flower nuts are the exact opposite in the fact they say flower or bloom on the bottles, which are mostly higher in potassium and calcium to promote cola growth, mostly potassium for flower developement and the calcium for strength.

Switch ur lights to 12/12 to trigger sexing or flower developement and at that time stop all grow nuts and begin ur flower nuts to accelerate flower developement!
This thing kinda took a twist that i dont really understand but i think this is what ur looking for.

Hope that helps.....

"veg" is when the plant grows its vegetative mass. you know, the "support structure", this includes fan leaves for energy conversion and stems for flowers to bud on. in this stage lighting needs to be 18 hours or more, as to better reflect the long days of summer.
"flower" stage is when the plant produces is sexual organs (flowers and pollen sacks) mostly all the vegetative growth is stopped during this stage, and the plants primary focus is reproduction via pollination and seed formation. we however intervene (hopefully) and yank the males before they are mature enough to pollinate the females. thus we end up with copious amounts of sensimillia (that means "without seed").

the end.
