Did I harvest too early?

Hello again

After seeing a post from another user and having a short exchange with @PadawanWarrior , I realize I may have harvested my plants too early.

I wanted to avoid Hijacking another thread so I created my own.

Here is another plant in question. We let this baby ride out a little longer. It was a GREAT result for our micro-grow experiments. We noticed a ton of amber on the large sugars and some more amber on the actual bud, so we thought it was time.

I wanted to get not only @PadawanWarrior 's thoughts, but also others! Did we cut too early? Too late? Just right?

For curiosity sake, we yielded 228g wet trimmed with the branches (not main stem).

You’ll know when you dry and have a strong hay smell. That’s a good indication of harvesting too early. I use to have this problem a lot until I learned to be patient and let the plant finish. Now I have nothing but a strong aroma from dry to cure, and the smell just gets stronger during the cure. I’ve never been able to tell if a plant is done just by looking at it. There’s a few other variables to consider. More importantly the type of high you’re trying to accomplish.

Also make sure you're checking trichs on the buds and not the sugar leaves.

Yeah we used a jeweler's lope we borrowed from a friend for our first round of harvesting, but weren't as fortunate for this second round. We waited even longer than we THOUGHT we had to. Unfortunately we couldn't confirm with anything better that our cell phones and some image processing software.

As far as I understand the longer you let it grow the more of a couch-lock CBD like high you will have, whereas mostly cloudy tri's will produce more of a sativa-like high.

That one is definitely more done than the last. I'd still probably give this one another week or so.

Also make sure you're checking trichs on the buds and not the sugar leaves.

You're thinking CBN, not CBD. But ya, chopping early gives a lighter high.

I also haven't took the scope out to look at my trichs in over a year. I am lazy though.

Cannabinol is a mildly psychoactive cannabinoid found only in trace amounts in Cannabis, and is mostly found in aged Cannabis. Pharmacologically relevant quantities are formed as a metabolite of tetrahydrocannabinol.

Having had both CBN and diazepam, that has not been my experience. I’ve found CBN-bearing weed to be an uninteresting smoke. Others may have had other experiences.

Specifically I have found none of what I like about diazepam or its congeners.

You can't really see the trichome coloration. The 'amber' I see is reflected green/yellow from the foliage. You need to get loupes or a handheld microscope and I usually harvest based on the intersection of plant maturity and trichome profile.

This is mostly cloudy with rare amber a few days earlier than I usually pull. Also the sugar leaves usually lead the bud so you want to check bud trichomes.
