You have to stop giving out bad advice!
You water when the soil is dry, and water until there is some runoff. There is no set time for watering plants, they take up water at different rates thruout their life cycyle.

yep yep.

Also different soil mixes will dry out faster then others.

I water once a week, give or take a day or two for a 4 & 5 gal bucket.

how do you know that the first inch of the surface isnt just dry, and the rest underneath isnt still saturted with water.

it takes atleast 48-72 hours for a 6litre pot to dry out, even at 90F temps. thats why im saying do it every 3 days, because you dont know how wet the soil is a couple inches under the surface.

im growin in 3 gallon bags, using Fox Farm Ocean forest, which is pretty well aerrated. I have to go 4 days sometimes before even the top 3 inches of soil feels SEMI dry man. N then again, with my previous grow, my plant would suck the water outta the soil in a matter of 2 days....

Just 'heft' the pot. You'll know when its dry or wet.

...yup, best way to do it there. When it feels empty the girls is thirsty:hump:
Ya know? I always forget about that one. Works the best too.

(though hefting a 4 foot plant, its harder to tell, but those days are over. smaller plants are the indoor grower's friend)
