Looking for approval - my very first clones

Hello,

I think I've done everything right for my first cutting/clone, but just want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything crucial.

1. Took cuttings from plant I'm just about to flip to flower, set in water, removed lower leaves, cut stem with disinfected razor at 45º, dipped heavily in Rootex, and then plugged them into wet Easy Plug's.
2. I've sprayed the cuttings once, and put into a humidity dome with a heat mat under the dome, with 2 x 24w CFL's attached right on top of the dome, and my makeshift humidifier (sponge in water). Heat mat will stay on 24/7, but lights are 18/6.
3. Humidity dome is closed, and I plan to leave closed for 48 hours, but to remove the dome tomorrow once or twice tomorrow just to lightly spray and keep the cuttings moist.

Any tips for the next few days would be great! Really don't wanna screw these ones up.

Full light mist of dome.
No more misting plants.
Closed vents.
Remove and remist dome 2 or more times per day.

Ok, so just literally mist the interior plastic of the dome ~twice a day? Keep the vents closed for the first week. Got it.

Thanks Tint. I didn't soak my coco cubes in any nutes prior to transplanting... so here's hoping they can root all on their own. Will report back in a week or two.

How crucial do you think the water dip is? Been having problems after getting 100% success with first run and now they immediately drooped overnight and I realized I have been forgetting the water stem dip after 45 cut. Do you think this is my prob or something else

Are you referring to step 3 or 4?




DJM Coco Trees method.
1- big cuts, over 6 inches long from healthy moms

2- tips cut back 30%, 50% on large fans

3- soak cuts in phd tap water over night to assure they are well hydrated

4- soak 2 inch rockwool plugs in 350ppms worth of base nutes and a ph of 5.7 for 30 minutes

5- flush sheets with a fresh solution of the same strength and ph

6- shake about 20-30% of water out of plugs, do not squeeze them, but swing them like pitching a baseball

7- dip in clonex and put in plug, not using the premade hole, but right off to the side of it (premade holes alow to much oxygen in)

8- put 10 cuts per dome, never more, overcrowding is a nono with clones and will lead to rot, long root times and inconsistent temps and rh) I take big cuts, if you take small ones you can fit more, but you don't want them touching leaves

9- put them under t5, kept 3 feet away, too much light slows rooting and stresses plants, they want defused lighting as they cant absorb bright light without roots

10- keep temps IN the dome between 78-80...I use a temp gun to dial in the temps for the first day or two..the proximity to the light, the strength of light, heat in the room all play a factor in the temp in the dome, so one needs to dial that in until it sits at 80..in cold places get a heat mat with digital thermostat, put the sensor for the thermostat in an empty plug in the dome and set the mat to 76, that usually puts it around 80 in the dome..but again , many variable effect that

11- I spray the inside of the dome only, never the plants, and keep the dome beaded until day 6 or 7 when I see roots...at that time I open vents slowly over the course of 3 days and by day 10 and are ready to transplant

12- I never water plugs after the initial soak, you want them moist but not wet or dry

that's about it...the moisture level in the plug, presoak overnight, nutes in the soak water and keeping temps around 80 are the 4 crucial elements...dial those 4 in and you will never have issues with cloning again

3- my problems I believe are i thought an unwatered mom would be better than a watered one. First mistake I believe and I forgot to dip the cut in water before root gel they are no fallen over for a week and have some that look like horse necks bent at the middle of stem. They get hella mad when o try to put under light. Led t5 raised bout 3 feet

Don't get discouraged, I've kilt many. Find and follow a known good method for the root riot rooters you are using.
And/or try rockwool.
Eventually, one of the methods you try will become your go to.

So these ones prob toast I’m assuming. I had a good method that’s why I’m confused not discouraged. I’m just gonna assume it was missing a step and the lack of dipping the stem and air bubbles got in the stem.

Hi,

So my clones are starting to look a bit sad. This is coming up to day 7. I slightly cracked the vents last night and the clones look more sad today. The substrate feels like a dry sponge.

Have been spraying the inside of the lid twice a day but the last few days they’re looking v sick.

Any advice to save these little ones?
