how important is making sure your waters ph is correct? my first grow still on veg just using spring and distilled from walmart so far they are healthy i guess i should gert a digital meter are the digital sticks for 12 bucks good enough or shoud i get a 40 dollar ph ppm meter with a probe ? just waked and baked i need to order online i live in the sticks any suggestions would be appreciated

I am new to this also. Great question though. Just how much and what type of difference will having the correct ph make? I grow in soil so does it matter more or less in that medium?

.

Your Ph will determine what nutrients can be absorbed by the plant. Most fall in the 6 - 7
ph range for soil and 5 - 6 for hydro.

Don't use distilled water, you can leach nutrients away from the roots.

Ph makes all the difference.

I just use tap water from an area where the ph is about 7.5 and soft water. Its my 1st grow using very basic setup. So far i accept where i am at but always happy to improve a situation that doesn't cost too much. Thanks for the reply.

First off what are you growing in? Soil, coco, hydro? What is the pH of your tap water? If you're in the United States you can usually find a water quality report for your water online.

I don't pH in soil. I do pH in coco or hydro because it is necessary. When growing in any decent soil most tap water is perfectly fine.

I'd use the spring water over the distilled. But chances are if you're growing in soil your tap water is fine and won't even need any adjustment unless it's way out there pH wise but municipal water is typically pH'd between 7.5 - 8 as that prevents leaching of metals from the pipes into the drinking water. I've been using it for years in soil just fine.

Cannabis likes the same pH as most houseplants and people never pH the water when they grow houseplants in the same soils people grow cannabis in and they thrive. Most problems cannabis growers have come from overcomplicating things. The best advice I can give anyone is to forget all this cannabis specific stuff, do some research on the basics of plant physiology, and treat their plants like any other plant. All this cannabis specific stuff is just a product of marketing.

Thats pretty much the philosophy i plan to use. One exception is that i am growing here for quality and quantity. Not the usual aesthetic of house plants.

What will you be feeding them and how?

Soil grows many times need Phing later in theyre cycle because what is used to feed the plants can inactivate the microbes in the soil. Once that happens the microbes can't deliver nutrients.

This is when you need to focus on Phing the water. Not the soil the water.

With no microbes you will need to get those nutrients delivered. Phing the water does that.
