Do trichomes develop during the light or dark phase?

Hi,

I'm just wondering about the development of trichomes. Do they turn from clear to milky to amber during the light hours or throughout the dark period? I'm just wondering if I should be checking them in the mornings or just before dark?

They turn from clear to milky to amber as the plant matures. I would reccommend checking during the day time since it's light out already. Checking once a day is fine. You're not going to miss your harvest window by 6 hours because you checked too late in the day.

Why not both? When my shit's getting close I'm out there 3X a day or more

Problem with relying on the structure outdoors, is when your entire crop gets pollinated for sure by some male or hermie in the area (I quadrupal checked that it wasn't my plants that caused this), and you also develop fox tails, the structure of the bud is malformed anyway, so I relied on trichomes color for harvest. Mine just started developing amber trichomes last week, so I chopped because I was tired of staying up all night securing my harvest from thieves and animals. I was just wondering when the degradation of the thc occurs, during the light phase or during the dark phase after the trichomes have been exposed for the duration of daylight...

If a crop is pollinated, you will usually know as you can see and feel when seeds are present in as little as 1-2 weeks after pollination.
Even strains that naturally form fox tails will give visual cues when to harvest, like receding pistils, swollen calyxes, etc.

Most people will harvest at first light, since thats what you are asking but I bet any noticeable difference between harvesting in the morning vs evening is negligible.

Ya I should have paid more attention at the start. These things got 9 ft tall so I tried my best to tie them down to prevent visibility and didn't look at them during the day to prevent the uncountable number of teens that roam all day and night long in my area from seeing me mess with them. I am paranoid where I live and will not be growing outdoors around here again lol. I'm glad this was an extremely fast flowering strain. Back to my tent grows. At least I got enough bud to fill 4 1 gallon jars and a large freezer bag of sticky trimmings for extracts :-) It turned out pretty good for 3 plants and considering the circumstances. Also the neighbours never turned out their lights, so it was very hard to get good darkness.
