I think the idea with genetically modifying weed would be to make "trich the size of baseball" or something along those lines. Also once we figure out more about the genes, we could for example make plants that produce not only huge amounts of resin, but also some specific cannabinoids, like THCV and what ever unknown cannabinoids there are. They could then be mixed at different ratios for extracts if they would not care to make plants with different ratios.
Or they could for example not only make plants that produce tons of THC, but also modify specific terpene profiles. Or perhaps just make plants for insane terp production with little to no THC and use that in extracts for flavour.
Like i said i dont think this will replace all weed. Some people will want organic non GMO weed always im sure, but i dont think people who want as powerful extracts as possible care too much, because if done correctly the end product would be the same, but the crispr GMO plants will be so much more productive that normal weed does not have a chance in resin markets, except maybe in some small niche thing.
I mean think about how the markets will change when you can get extremely powerful extracts for third the price compared to some pretty good 20-25% THC organic weed.
The fucked up thing is that then those only plants that are not for some niche smokers are licenced to some large corporations that then start to control the whole markets as much as possible and trying to create monololies to these crisp strains. For this sort of stuff im sure they could get a full patent on the strain and could control all sales of this sort of weed, in a way that only licensed farmers can sell this and only big operations could afford to buy those cuttings. Hell they could most likely even make a genetic code for the plants that is individual to all licensed growers so that they could sue them if some cuttings moved to black markets.
I hope they dont figure out this crispr thing too much before humanity gains some more common sense and starts to also think about the consequences of things other than just how much money it makes. Which sadly does not seem to be coming anytime soon, as shown by the masses of trumptards and other similar idiots who either worship money or are brainwashed to act in favour of people who worship money and try to funnel more of it to the top where they live and collect profits, disregarding common good and ethics.
